I'm playing Dragon Quest: The Chapters of the Chosen at the moment. I haven't played Dragon Quest IX yet but I think it's like that but more old school.

Other additional info Looking for something along the lines of Dynasty Warriors, with an emphasis on the Sengoku era, but completely playable for a non-Japanese-speaking player.

Dragon Quest 9 - old-skool turn-based, but no random encounters (you walk around with up to 3 other guys)
The World Ends With You - well, i'll let you try it out for yourself (you walk around with your partner)
Pokemon HG/SS - well, it's pokemon (you walk around with the first creature on your party)


basically, all the other RPGs have you walking around (usually only showing yourself) so it's rather hard to list them all.

Well, I mean the interface is just like that of PS0. Like, you're ready to fight without menus like on Nostalgia and the sort. >.

fighting without menus... hmmm... rare for RPGs...
Ragnarok DS - a port of a korean MMORPG. stylus-controls for everything
Maple Story DS - another port of a korean MMO. this is basically a button-controlled side-scrolling game (get a translaton patch. there's no english version)
Zelda - well, there's always this (i just bet someone's gonna jump in with the old "zelda is not an RPG" charade)
From The Abyss - basically a dungeon-crawler, but absorbing abilities and HP from enemies makes it worthwhile

Avalon Code - really complicated. jut try it.
The "Tales" games - i understand that they are japanese games, so have to get a translation for these
Custom Robo Arena - build your own robot, destroy the robots of others.
Fighting Fantasy - derived from the old-skool "choose your own adventure" things. first person dungeon crawler, basically

can't think of anything else. enjoy

EDIT: i didn't play PS0, so i just threw out the games that fit the description, lol. hope yo like one of these.

EDIT: also try out Rune Factory: Fantasy Harvest Moon (well the title's close to that)

All the characters are in 2D but the rest of the world is in 3D. You can use the L and R buttons to rotate the camera around your character. The 3D doesn't really add anything to the gameplay. Don't really care about the hairstyles or the character design.

You could the Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days.
It's a proper action RPG for the most part, though there is a menu used to cast spells and use items, it doesn't feel like the menus in turn based RPG's.

@Shinigami357, The Legend of Zelda isn't an RPG.

DQ 9 - It's 256, but well worth it.
Ragnarok DS - Filipinos love Ragna, so...

Glory of Heracles - Kind of hard to describe, but it's well worth a try (128)

Chrono Trigger - Can't make a DS RPG list without this (128)
Shin Megami games - Kind of like pokemon, except you use demons, and your character can attack (devil survivor = 64 ; strange journey = 128)

hmmm, there are some of the old skool 2d sidescrolling shooters, but i don't remember any like rtype.
maybe you'd consider contra 4 and metal slug 7???

yep played already, didnt like contra at all, but metal slug was kinda fun
