I thought Suikoden was a rather standard turn based RPG, and Chrono Trigger was just turn based RPG with timing.

I suggest Bowser's Inside Story a lot (especially if you were a fan of the timing elements in Chrono Trigger). It's got tricky anti-piracy though, so find out how to use it on your cart. Otherwise, Kingdom Hearts wasn't a half-bad hack and slash RPG, if not a little repetitive. And there's also Phantasy Star 0 (which has a US release in November) and Element Hunters (which is sorta a Phantasy Star-esque game that was released not too long ago in Japanese).

Transformers Decepticons and that other Transformers game was a bit alike, it was also a sandbox game.
And C.O.P The Recruit will be like that too, keep an eye onto it.

KORG DS is probably the best one out there.
Also try the homebrew VideoGameHero, google it.
