I've almost completed Professor Layton (several sittings) on my DSi, and haven't had any problems. Played a bit of Platinum, too.

No they don't - there are only a few cards which were bricked. So don't be worried about that. The forum-mod closed the topic already and the one who had the problems, got a card which is completely running those roms. I wrote with him and a lot of others reporting the roms are working for them, too.
