shorter post than my last few, but i haven't seen any posts on this and ive had multiple occurrences of this happening this time (hooray for not seeming crazy!)

sometimes i try to activate cheats on a game, and they don't work. when i save and close the game, my system crashes. is this a me problem or a cheat problem?

im getting the cheats from checkpoint, but some of them don't work. i don't know if im doing something wrong (which i probably am) or if this is just something that comes with trying to cheat

Could be a number of different reasons, the cheat itself - as in it's bugged the game you're playing causing it to crash.

If you're using the inbuilt Luma 3ds cheat engine that's also known to cause crashes and some cheats don't work with it. I find usually standard value changes work with that, but anything a bit more complex like walking through walls cheats or moon jumps rarely work if ever.

It's better to enable the plugin loader on the Rosalina menu and install either the blank CTRPF plugin (using checkpoint's cheat files works with this) or a CTRPF plugin made specifically for the game you're playing.

Without any crash dumps, or other information like what game it is you're playing, or even the cheats used, we can't really help you further.

Checkpoint is great for downloading cheat files, but at the end of the day no one is really testing the cheats and updating them much anymore, better off and more fun IMO to make the cheats yourself through CTRPF, but if not then there are certain groups you can find on discord and other forums that still actively make and update cheats.

Sometimes games just crash anyway, just gotta boot up and try again.

i actually do have two crash dumps (that im about 90 percent sure are cheat crashes, i dont currently have any means of opening these) that i think are from nintendogs + cats and animal crossing new leaf. here's the .dmp files

I've yet to see a case where anyone has actually gotten something useful out of a crash dump. (Maybe the actual developer with the source code would be able to do something with it.)

if this is just something that comes with trying to cheat
It pretty much is, yes.

If you want to mess with New Leaf, you'd be better off just dumping your save data and editing it on your PC with the savegame editor.

idk, the guy said a crash dump could've been useful :b from what im able to see in the files, they're all just bytes of code if what caused the crash? i assume you'd have to be like really good at hexadecimal to understand it.....

god knows i haven't the slightest clue about that kind of coding, but then again id say scratch would easily stump me @□@
