During my instance on the internet, i've found a lot of people who talks about Sonic Adventure 1 & 2, respectively, and, until now, especially SA2, is the one where everyone turns mad-shit every time someone talks in a bad way about that, i know that a lot of fanbases aren't the nicest things on earth, but why they have to complain everytime Sega makes a new sonic game.

Most of them are like this: "SONIZ ADVENTUARE 2 IS THE BEZ GAMI EVAZ lolololololololololo", i know that there are some incredible people inside of the fanbase, for example, the creators of Sonic 2 HD (Still in development) are making an amazing job, a tribute to the classic Sonic 2 for the Sega Genesis.

But my question remains: ¿Why does so many people wants a new Sonic game like SA2?, I'm not saying that this game sucks or anything, in fact, i really like this game, it has flaws, like, the annoying Knuckles missions, the average Tails stages, though, they did a good job with the Sonic/Shadow stages, at least.

After the release of Sonic Boom for the 3DS & Wii U, almost everyone was bashing the game, saying that is the worst sonic game ever and it shouldn't exist, in my opinion, this game is boring, repetitive, and for me, it's not the worst one, Laberynth will always take the cake on this position, but yeah, it was pretty mediocre.

The question is, What it's going to happen with Sonic?, He is a character with a lot of potential, you can make a lot of ideas with him and they can actually work!, for example, an open world Sonic game where you can select the stage you want, or one where Sonic is not the only important character, if not everyone else, like Tails and Knuckles, kinda like SA1.

With good and fresh ideas, a new Sonic game that it works can be actually real!, the only problem with this is the reaction of the fanbase, you see, almost everyone bashed the Sonic fairy tail games (Secret Rings & The Black Night, for the Wii) and i though they were pretty good, the story was kinda dark & serious at some points, the music was incredible as usual, the gameplay of both games is good, i didn't see the problem with these games, but the fanbase reaction was: "THIZ IZ NOT ZONISC ADVENTUARE 2, THIS SUCKS, GIVE ME SUANIC ADVENTUORE THRAI SAGA!".

This is where the main problem resides, a new type of Game for the Sonic games, and the fanbase reacts: "It's not that or this", even with Sonic Colors & Generations, and i think they were going too far, usually, i don't care about the fanbase of something, i usually ignore them, but sadly, they are the people who usually buys the game, even if it's only to say bad things about it.

So, this means that every sonic game has to be made like Sonic Adventure?, at least with the 3D sonic games?, any new or fresh idea has to be erased or forsaken because it's not like that game, what the hell is the problem with new ideas?, if they found a new idea, that can work and be expanded to better directions, why they have to receive it with such negativism, do they say at least a thanks for giving a Sonic game, instead of complaining like bitches for every new kind of game.

Almost everyone right now is begging for Capcom to release another Megaman, no matter of what kind, and you know something, they have received the same treat as the Sonic games, Battle Network & Starfoce series, although the earlier entries were kinda popular among these gamers, they were forgetting little by little as time was passing, only to realize now that they are good and incredible.

Anyway, what kind of game should be created for Sonic?, a platformer like SA 1&2, or a new kind of experience that can work with this character, only together we can know.

The Sonic fanbase is pretty much infamous for being one of the most horrible fanbases ever conceived. I thought Sonic Adventure 2 was a good game but not spectacular. Personally, I'd love to see something similar to Sonic Heroes but with more polished controls and more variety.

I don't understand the love for SA2 either. The first level playing as Sonic in the city is really fun and stylish, but the game forces you to play as all the other characters which really really sucks in my opinion. I HATE the knuckles levels and pretty much any non-Sonic level, and I don't give a flying shit about the chao garden. 3D sonic games really aren't my cup of tea, and I think at least some of the love for SA2 can be attributed to nostalgia combined with the 1st level being really awesome and fun(good 1st impression in other words). I've always been more of a Mario guy truth be told, but I dig the Genesis Sonic games.

    ALL fanboys are silly.

We all know of Sonic's hit-and-miss record but as a rule the handheld entries worked out pretty well because they kept things simple and stayed true to the series roots. Sega thinks they need to 'innovate' all the time but it's always the simple games that get the best reception. Clearly the fans don't WANT innovation. If Sega wants to try new things then maybe they should try those new ideas in a new IP and just stick to what works with Sonic. Colours was great, Generations was great, the DS games were great, the Advance series was fantastic, this is what your fans want, Sega. Sometimes it's better to just stick to the basics instead of contuinually hunting for this mythical new way to play that'll send the series in CoD sales figured. It's never going to happen, Sega. Accept that, move on, and give the fans what they want. You'll never make the billions that CoD makes but you'll make more listening to your fans than you will by innovating for no reason and forcing annoying gimmicks on us.

Same goes for Final Fantasy, to be honest. Try new things with new IPs but when a series has been going for a long time and has a devoted fan base, then you have a duty to those fans if you ask me.

SA2 was a below average game with some good aspects but not a whole lot. Sonic Gens is far superior, i.e, gameplay, music, graphics (obviously lol), controls, polished and what a Sonic game should be all around.

Those who believe SA2 is a masterpiece are as gullible as Nintendo fanboys.

Sonic is a doomed franchise unless Sega learns that their new games have been terrible. The fact that nostalgia has kept the franchise alive as long as it has is amazing but eventually people will give up on it. The did well with colors and generations, but thats only so much. I should also add that the sonic adventure games were terrible and the only reason people think otherwise is because of serious nostalgia goggles.

SA1 had some good tunes and SA2 with that first level but... yeah. That's it.

I haven't played the handheld or any recent Sonic games so my opinion is outdated.

Before I finished reading your post I was actually gonna mention the Sonic Series' similarity to Final Fantasy. You can innovate without trying to reinvent the wheel every time, so like Blaze said just give the fans what they want, which (I think) is old-school Genesis style Sonic action without all the fruity side characters, or at least limit their involvement. Sonic Adventure 1-2 was actually when Sega kinda lost me, but I've never been a huge Sonic fan. I love me some Sonic 2 though although I suck horribly at it. As far as 3d Sonic games go, make them sonic only and make em fast, simple and most importantly, make the gameplay/controls really tight/responsive + IRON OUT THE BUGS!

Many old FF fans(me included) want an old-school, ATB-based FF game with awesome graphics, interesting characters and a great, engrossing story on a home console. No shitty phone games, and fuck you SE for fucking up FF6's art. Get rid of random battles and use a refined version of Chrono Trigger's battle system, because it's the perfect middle ground between turn-based and action imo.

Old school final fantasy exists as bravely default now. Final fantasy something entirely different now and I don't see them going back. I just hope that what they make with 15 is good instead of the steaming pile of shit 13 was.
yep, thats pretty much the issue. But a level or 2 being good doesnt make up for all the garbage in those games. The sonic fanbase baffles me with what they will tolerate and say is good.

This reminds me of that kid, SammyClassicSonicFan. He ranted so much about this... It was pretty funny.
I believe we need more innovation on Sega's part.
The fans should give up on Sonic Adventure 3 and Sonic Heroes 2...
Sega should ACTUALLY PLAYTEST THE GAME 100%
They also need to stop this "Mobile Game" idea... MOBILE GAMES WILL BE THEIR DOWNFALL... LIKE THE DREAMCAST AND THE SATURN...

Can't comment on BD because I haven't played it, but if I buy a 3DS I will. My vision is terrible so I have trouble playing on handhelds, but the XL is probably big enough to partially negate that. The fact you can't hook it up to your TV like the PSP 2000-3000 sucks(all handhelds should offer this), but it does have tons of good games.

I think much like SE with FFXV, Sega has one more chance to make a good Sonic game, and if it's a sack of shit like FFXIII/Sonic 06 or Boom, both series will fizzle out imo. I would also tell SE to remake FF7 but they would probably fuck it up royally, and fans' expectations would be so high that it would be nearly impossible to satisfy them. FFXV and Sega's next Sonic game do have to be great though because both series are on the ropes, nearly out on their feet. KH3 is of utmost importance to SE as well because its fanbase is at least as rabid as FF's.

EDIT: Also, as Grayshow mentioned, test your fucking games before you release them Sega. Whether it be 2d or 3d, people want a simple, fun, POLISHED Sonic game with tons of speed. Stop releasing buggy abominations like Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom.

I think Final Fantasy has more hope than sonic at this point. At least they have FF14 which is supposed to be solid (Though I haven't played it and mmos aren't really my cup of tea) and Type 0. If they fuck up as bad as 13 again it will hurt. The only reason sonic will stay around much longer is because of the blindness of the fanbase unless sega does a total 180 for sonic.

The Sonic Adventure games are shit. End of.

Sega just need to go back to the Colours/ Generations formula and develop it.

Sonic games were never particularly good. B+ player at best. Just letting the franchise die (well, in video game form anyway, it has much more value in other markets)? That's best for business.

There are just as many crazy ass FF fanboys as there are Sonic fanatics, so I'd say FF is in quite a bit of trouble too, but good call on FFXIV. Last MMO I played was Ultima Online back in 1997-99. It is embarrassing though that XIV apparently sucked so much when it initially came out that SE had to completely remake the game. Can't comment on Type-0, but I bought FFXIII used and I still think I got ripped off. Last great FF game was IX in my opinion. X was kinda the prototype for XIII with how linear it was, X-2 shouldn't exist, XI was an MMO I never played and XII is a really good game but it just didn't hit that sweet spot that IV-IX(minus VIII) hit.

I'm going WAY too OT here. Sonic 1-3 are the best Sonic games I've played, especially 2, but there's an entire generation of kids today that don't even remmeber those games. Sonic Adventure 2 is considered "retro" by a lot of people and there's a ridiculous amount of nostalgia for it despite it being kind of shit imo. People calling the fucking Dreamcast & Gamecube retro makes me feel old, but SA2 is to many Sonic Fans what Sonic 1-3 was to people who grew up during the 90s. Sonic 1-3 were actually really good though :P

    edit:
I dunno how mobile will affect the Sonic series, but phones are terrible platforms for games and 99.9% of mobile games are worthless cashgrabs with no redeeming qualities. Almost everyone has a smartphone though so it's a massive market that's impossible to ignore.

Sonic should try to find a new home as an RPG because that worked out so well the first time...

I am in a little bit of an agreement but in my opinion Sonic Adventure 2 is one of the finer ones. It had good controls, much simpler than now and it worked back then. The game was a bit sloppy in places but overall played really good. The characters were a bit hit or miss, I liked Sonic, tolerated Knuckles but hated Tails. Same with the dark side. I liked the Chao thing they had which they haven't done in ages which added to the game.

Colors and Generations were fine because they stuck to the formula that made it good. It can be done in 3D but only when you give Knuckles the ability to punch stuff, do flying attacks similar to Blaze in Sonic 2006, give Tails the ability to fly and use bombs etc but do it all in a format similar to Sonic Adventure/Sonic Heroes/Sonic Generations. We don't need gimmicks like Tails in a mech or Knuckles hunting. I mean the characters played how they should in 06 and that game sucked but I will give them praise for trying with it.

Sonic can get back on their feet but they need to do it right, basic and right.

I think Sonic should go back to his roots, and i mean, not Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 roots, i mean the original trilogy for the Sega Genesis, or better yet, make the games a litte more simpler, like, if you're going to make a 3D sonic game, make that game with the abilities offered in SA1 more an ability called Super Light Speed Dash, where sonic can run incredibly fast, almost like teleport, and with that, you can go either higher or faster to an specific destination, that's the way it should be, not change completely the mechanics of the game (With the exception of Black Knight, that game is fuckin awesome), and lastly, make the stages short, i don't know why, but Sonic games aren't made to last too long, like the fuckin marathon one has to go through in Shadow the Hedgehog or Sonic Heroes (Depending in how you do, anyway), a simple, more or less short, depending, a solid gameplay, a kick-ass music, and you have the best game, and all with that simple idea, don't you think?

Sonic fans: Would you be opposed to a new Genesis-style Sonic game ala Mega Man 9-10? Give Sonic the abilities he had in either 2 or 3 and discard all the newer stuff much like MM9 did, and naturally make it look like a Genesis/MD game. One big advantage of going in that direction is the fact that it could be ported to every platform known to man.
