If you don't have a balance on your account or upcoming NSO payment, you can change the region to US, claim the games and change back to the original one once the event is done. If you've missed the all the games they've given away so far, you'll need to buy them in order to catch up to the latest one which should be revealed in a few hours.
No. But I made the effort last year, and the games mostly suck.
I don't remember which ones were given out last year but, yeah, they aren't the greatest (I've only played Creepy Tale 2 for a bit.)

Additionally, in case you missed one of the previous years' badges just use the following link and replace the year with the one you want: https://store.steampowered.com/replay/my/2023

They're mostly smaller indie games, with No Gravity Games working as a publisher for the Switch ports. So they can be a mix of quality.

There's typically a PC version on Steam, so you can check out reviews of the games there. For example, the reviews for One True Hero are Mostly Positive, with the biggest complaint being clunky controls, while many praise the story and humor:

I've never heard of any of these, but I appreciate you taking the time to compile the whole list. Thank you!

You're welcome! Most of them were previously given away so, if you missed one or two, there's a good chance that it's among them. There are a couple of decent games as well.

Edit: Oddly enough there seem to be a second free game today but it's still hidden (whereas Kids Farm Coloring is not).
I don't see the hidden one you're talking about, only that tomorrow there will be three new games:
