When I was younger, I used to be OBSESSED with Scott Cawthon's The Desolate Hope.
Everything about the game, from its story to its music choices to the gameplay (both in battle and simulation), makes it one of my favourite games I've ever played on Steam.
Now, if only Scott would let loose and make a sequel/spin-off.
It's free, and its system requirements are quite minimal (not sure if it can run on Linux, although I've been meaning to try, since I'm a big Linux-y guy)).
