Hello

I've been searching the internet for a recent reply but could not find any.. so I try my luck here in this friendly group of users.

My son has downloaded the recent version of Fortnite on his Nintendo switch. Because he wanted to try the voice chat with a friend he bought a headphone with micro. Wired headphones with a jack with 3 rings

I tested the mic on a mobile Phone and it worked.

But in Fortnite it does not. I enabled the voice chat option in Fortnite settings. It should make a speaker logo appear next to your character's head but nothing happens when I talk in the micro.

Does this happen to you as well... is it game related (as I read somewhere before) or is it headphone/speaker related? Are there headphones that work?

It was a plantronic model... should I return it?

Thank you for your feedback

If they work on a phone they its certainly not the headphones, unless you mean they are just not recognized by the game. But headsets like that are pretty much standard. Its gotta be an in game issue.

Try switching the chat settings from “party” to “game”
I will try that tonight.. hope it makes a difference

I have no idea how you can tell if it is recognised... the headphones work because you can hear all the in game noises... only the chat option is not active

Do you have another set of headphones with a mic in the cord?

I use a mic for chat on Fortnite

And it's definitely problematic, my mic works fine on my pc, PS4 and other electronics... But when using it with Fortnite on switch probably around 50% of the time I have issues using the mic

The good news is that a reboot of Fortnite usually fixes this issue, or it rectifies itself after a couple of battle royales

I don't play Fortnite but it seems to work fine for my cousin.
The pinout on 4-pole 3.5mm jacks isn't entirely standard i think. Because the 3.5mm cable with embedded mic that I use with my BT headphones (built in mic is kinda crappy and only works wireless) has a splitter for separate mic/headphone out. But a braided splitter i bought on eBay does not seem to work correctly.
So maybe phones will autodetect the pinout and work with anything, but the Switch expects a certain pinout which may not be compatible with all headphones. Just a guess.
