I don't even know what's up with it at this point. It really doesn't like smaller-than-specific size, and no one has actually found out what said specific size is. And the behaviour is different depending on the cart.

@Xenon++ back in the day put some random hardcoded value, and that was known to be working, so I'm sticking with it.

Nope, it doesn't work. You can only boot games from the kernel designed for your flashcart.

Nope, use this instead, as I checked and your card should be compatible.

Of course if you have a 3DS just use Twilight menu with nds-bootstrap instead as it is much faster that running nds-bootstrap from a flashcard.
