Hacking Flash Cart Recommendations

My roommate really likes my R4 and wants a flashcard for his original DS. I haven't really been following the flashcard scene since about 2 years ago when I bought my R4 so I really don't know what to look for anymore.

Basically what I'm looking for is a reliable basic flashcard that will be compatible with an original DS, something similar to an R4. What price range should I expect to pay? What type of card should I look for? Do they still make the original R4 or are there only imitations?
