Hi.

Can anyone confirm if the latest firmware doesn't work with 3rd party docks no more? I've heard this now from few people but not seen anything official about it online.

Thanks

The issue with third party dock is when you switch between the handheld mode and dock mode, there is the change of 5v to 15v, when you supply the wrong voltage you brick the switch, only the offiicial dock understand when to supply the correct voltage.

Ah okay that makes sense then if its for safety purposes like that. Then I dont mind then. I wasn't even aware of that.

I updated my OLED yesterday and the cheapo stand-dock I have at my desk still works fine for what it's worth. I can't remember what brand it is though. It still puts out video fine. Might depend on what brand?

Yeah it could be. Just watched some vids on YouTube. Seems to have affected the usb-c adapter type more.

Ver. 21.0.0 (Released November 10, 2025)

  • The following updates have been made for GameChat
    • Chat can continue if the console goes from TV mode (docked) to Handheld or Table mode where this scenario changes the internet from a wired connection to a wireless connection.
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that this update broke third party docks out of negligence rather than malice. Still a bummer.

I have heard of various Switch 2 docks being broken by this update, and a few which are not... I haven't heard of any changes for Switch 1 however.
