Two days ago, my Firefox started to have a bug in which the group of tabs doesn't move when a new tab is opened. So I tried to close Firefox to fix the problem, and it got stuck in the process. It didn't have that problem the last time I closed it, and it's still stuck as of today. I can't kill the Firefox process using the Task Manager, because the last time I did that it erased all of my history. I tried asking my brother to fix it, but all he could say was update Firefox. I'm not too happy with the new versions of Firefox, because I like the older ones better (since I'm a fan of all things classic). Does anyone have a safe solution to this problem?

(P.S. don't say "restart your computer" or anything like that)

If the process has been frozen for a day then I don't think there's anything you can do except kill it, unfortunately.

If you mean it freezes on startup try starting Firefox in safe mode by holding down the shift key while it starts up.
If it freezes after you disable safe mode then reenable safe mode and try removing any extensions or themes that might be causing it.

Even if you don't like the new interface you need to keep in mind using old versions of Firefox is a security risk, and won't be compatible with certain extensions.
Maybe try the new Firefox with https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/ ?

You need to kill your task.

To prevent losing history/tabs/etc., you should install "session manager" add-on.
be sure to save your session before closing or to use auto-save, there are a lot of options. it may be hard to setup at first but it's very useful to keep/reopen tabs and session.

I highly recommend "Classic Theme Restorer" too.
I kept firefox on an old version for a long time (for addon compatibility), but finally updated. I used that addon to get a classic look.

on my old computer, Firefox used to freeze when closing too. but I never lost history/cookies/etc., only the tabs were not reopened but it's fine with session manager.
if you really are afraid of losing your profile information when killing it, make regular backup of your profile (inside appdata, roaming, firefox, profile)
