ROM Hack Fire Emblem Fates Difficulty?

Hey all!

Does anybody know how the difficulty is stored in the save data? Bit of an odd question, but I'm curious as to whether the difficulty (Normal, Hard & Brutal) is stored separately to the mode (Phoenix, Casual & Classic). If they are stored separately, it might be possible to mess with the save to do something like a Phoenix Brutal run, which could be amusing.

I just have no idea how I could start looking into the save, any help? ^^"
