ROM Hack Fire Emblem DS translation?

Well of course nobody "knew" that it was coming out until today, but given the track record for this series it was very likely.

I've never played any of them either, but all the recent ones have been brought over.

You're on the single greatest research tool ever created by mankind. Is it really that hard to type "fire emblem wiki" into Google?

Anyway, there was no official announcement but after releasing every game since frickin' Rekka no Ken to the U.S., and having two Fire Emblem characters in two Smash Brothers games and (if I remember correctly) America getting Intelligent System's Advance Wars Days of Ruin before Japan, there was no way this game was not seeing the light of day in the U.S.

I wondered why Marth stayed in SSB and Roy got replaced by Ike. I figured it was just because Marth is considered more, well, emblematic of the series (which is still probably true). But I think now that they knew this re-release was being made as well.

Really, why do you care what I do, if I want to start translations about games that are gonna be released in the US then it's my own problem, mind your own business.

I feel like start implies you can either translate or ROM hack.

Anyway, don't get your panties in a knot. It's just another example of how the translation requests have gotten out of control.

Finally, am I the only one struck by the insanity of requesting a game (a pretty text-y RPG at that) from a series that HAS been released in English and you haven't played? The mind boggles.

I know Fire Emblem is quite popular and a chance of an official translation is relatively higher than other games, but I don't understand the problem you're having with the fact that Noitora didn't play Fire Emblem before. From what I understood aznanimefreak1 wanted a translation and Noitora offered to help. From then on it was completely technical and whether Noitora had played Fire Emblem before or not is irrelevant. Hell, even I never played Fire Emblem, but I gave some insights on the script files.

Simply being "announced" for an official translation doesn't warrant ending ours. Look what happened to Jet Impulse or Egg Monster Hero, they've been vaporware for ages.

The difference being those to are farm league, FE is the real deal. I will eat my hat (or a crow, or a hat made of crows or a crow's hat) if this does not get released.

As for trying to translate a game in a long series you know nothing about - long running Japanese series, like Dragon Quest, FE, Super Robot Wars, and others develop their own terminology. It is hard to translate them without already being familar with that terminology. Back in the day when whole series weren't translated, translators made their best guesses, but that is not the case with Fire Emblem.

Days of Ruin isn't out here, but I don't think there's that much interest in it. If there were, believe me, it'd be out.

It is a Japanese series. And it's not unpopular - but I've never had anyone mention it to me and there's been no advertising or anything (I have, on the other hand, had people talk to me about FE semi-randomly and seen associated merchandising).

I think there's zero chance that game's coming out here, but I still say it's a different case than FE.

The original DS game came out here first, but since the GC game came out in the States before Japan the other games have followed suit. The Wii game is out here now, but I'm waiting for it to be cheap in Akiba before buying it.
I imported Days of Ruin in January.

Neat info to know, but this isn't the correct thread for that, this is about a game's translation and nothing more. Not Advance War's JPN release.

let me give you an example:
????????????????
google translate:During the last 20 games you can record
yahoo babelfish:Past you can verify the results of 20 tournaments
Human translation:Check records of the last 20 battles
how about... an atlas translation
rolleyes.gif

The war record of 20 games in the past can be confirmed.
sorry I had to

Take something bigger than a small system message, let's take a paragraph from an article as an example and translate it using Atlas or whatever, the translated piece of text would not portray the original meaning.
Also there are many things that can't be translated by online translators, when Slant is used, etc.
