As for getting miis quickly, shake the system while doing something like watching a TV show and reset the date when you get the daily limit of 10 coins.
Repeat.

You can get about 100 coins every 2 hours this way and buy a bunch of dogs/cats to help you progress quickly. Pay attention to the thread's info to be prepared for trap rooms.

Also if you can streetpass with the same person (or have 2 3ds's) you can level your miis up to lv 7 for extra damage.
