DOL VS WAD explanation:

any IOS can properly install the IOS16 wad, because is is correctly signed.

Take NOTE: WadManager Works THROUGH IOS, so it is limited by whatever IOS it is pointing at can do.

after installing IOS16 with regular Wad Manager (pointing at IOS35 [no fakesign ability], I believe?)

you can then use the modified wad manager (pointing at IOS16 [with fakesign ability])

to install cIOS_fix [with fakesign ability and more], and then go back to a fully enabled regular wad manager (becuase it defaults to cIOS249, if its there, and if not ONLY THEN uses IOS35)

the DOL is a CIOS INSTALLER, which....guess what....ALSO uses IOS35 (or similar no fakesign ability IOS) to send its commands (most homebrew does)

the CIOS the DOL is trying to INSTALL is FAKESIGNED.....and it is trying to do this on an IOS (35) that no longer allows it to do so.

the newest cIOS installer is rev6

cIOS_fix is the definitive version of rev5, nothing more, nothing less.

It was chosen for this trick, because simply, it is the easiest to find cIOS wadfile, because it has been passed around here like crazy. if you missed why it has to be a wad, re-read everything I've just said. and I'll say it again:

it has to be a wad, because you can only install a wad using either IOS 16 or a cIOS itself using this trick.
if it were a dol, aka: an installer, it would be pointing at IOS35 or whatever, and would not work.

cIOS was just here and does the job, so we use it. it is really just cIOS249_rev5_definitive edition

someone could easily pack cIOS249_rev6 into a wad, heck I could do it right now, but you don't need me to, so stop asking why.

I just have to ask thou... why no pack a cIOS rev 6 and thus install the latest cIOS available? Also, can Waninkoko's cIOS be deployed to a single WAD for installation instead of this cios_fix.wad?

ok im jst checking with you guys, i downgraded to 3,2e firmware from the 23rd october update, i have a proper copy of ssbb here and i put in in the wii, it wanted an update so i let it update from the disc, it worked out fine, i am going to buy a proper copy of sonic unleashed when it comes out, if that wants me to update from the disc is it ok?

neither, I'll pack the Wiigator cIOSrev6 into a wad, although I'm pretty sure you can already find that in the wii-hacking forumns....if anyone wants to just post that link instead

Ok i done all the steps in post #1 but im using wad manager 1.3 to install the wad taken from the backup disc, but when i load wad manager it asks me where to get the files from, so i select sd and just gives me "ERROR ret = -1" and reboots my wii.

I installed the .wad from the nintendo backup disc and the cios_fix.wad and have version 0.3b of the backup laoder on hbc beta 9

Im going to try and burn another copy of the disc on the other pc, maybe it was a disc issue.

Awesome, it totally worked =D

I had problems with the network starting up so I had to manually put in the files to enable that portion. Once that was done, I was able to downgrade from 3.3U to 3.2U =D

would it be possible to burn a game with a modified Update IOS? so that would update instead of what nintendo wants to update?
or am i just dreaming?

you had to truchasign the disk. so it would work up to fw 3.2.

Good thinking, i think i could have done that since im in 3.2, but it takes some extra steps, and trucha signer sometimes doesnt work sometimes it does, at least on my pc...

i was so f****d off when it didnt work, but then i ran IOS downgrader and it worked, NEVER FORGET TO RUN IOS DOWNGRADER AFETR CIOS DOWNGRADER, lemme know if it works after
