Some talented hackers have been "gaining experience" by working on updates to the ShenZhen Nanjing Technology FF VII release for the SUBOR entertainment system. Following the English translation patch, many Western gamers were finally able to experience this release. Some were so inspired by what the game accompilshed that they set out to make it even better. The on-going project currently hacks most of the graphics into 8-bit representations of the original PSX game. The music has even been replaced with actual FF VII tunes. The flawed battle system has been discussed as well, and one coder has made a few posts regarding updates to the battle engine. This hack is turning into one that should not be missed. Navigate over to the project post via the link below and follow the progress!

I've been following this project since it began at romhacking dot net, and I'm always happy to see their next update. I have a secret love of demakes and pirated carts, and also of fans hacking their old favorite games, so this was a pretty amazing combination to someone like me.

I especially liked when the overworld was started to get revamped, with comparison shots to the actual world map. I'm a retronaut :P

every game on earth should be demake for the famicom....
that way we could destroy all modern gaming consoles and stop all this nonsense about technology progress in order to prevent skynet from taking over the world

Make it the Super Famicom and you've got yourself a deal...

But anyways, yeah, I agree. I can't believe they still manage to make games like this for the NES. Getting a three-disc game on there in any form that resembles itself can only be described as amazing.

I imagine the lack of FMV helps a little bit.

Even the PSX version wasn't that big...

FFVII on PSX was on 3 discs because of the FMV, the game program is duplicated on the 3 discs, no differences, you can perfectly finish the game from start to end with disc 1/2 or 3, only the video playing will be wrong.

I stumbled onto this hack the other day actually. Pretty fun to play - currently at Costa del Sol :D The only thing I'm waiting for really is the battle engine to be worked out - particularly the enemy call-outs - cus it's incredibly unbalanced at the minute. Damn you ShenZhen!!!

Also, if you can check out ShenZhen's port of Pokemon Yellow to the NES. Probably their best game - even has demade FR/LG graphics.

It'd be awesome if it get's finished... but I wouldn't play it, looks like crap.
are you trolling or completely missing the point

Neither. Am a fan of pixel games, and I love FFVII, but I think that compared to other hacks and demakes, this game is one of the uglier looking ones.

8bit? Ugly? How very dare you!!!

Naa, personally I think they have done pretty well with the graphics. I was impressed on how they made the Sector 5-6 Park in 8bit.

I never finished FFVII, I just couldn't get into it. But a demake I think i could probably get into. I think I'll wait until it's finished though before giving it a go. I hate playing through unfinished hacks, I always want more at the end of it.

This demake already goes right to the final boss, but I think it'll be better to wait till the maps and battle's have been edited thoroughly.

Thanks for that info. I was reading the thread at RomHack and there's was talk about the battles so I'll go ahead and wait for the next release then.

I'm definitely excited for this now though.

I would like a Predator game "Kill Team" it takes place in the Jungle of the first movie, your team is sent to hunt the predator, using current tech drones and a trained team. Set traps use strategy to hunt and trap or kill the predator.

I went today and looked at a motorcycle someone was selling. I get there and the battery on it was dead, so the guy grabbed a battery charger and hooked it up. He plugged it into the wall, and the motorcycle sparked and started smoking. Come to find out the bike uses a 6 volt battery and the guy had the charger set to 12v. I said sorry to the dude and walked away. I felt bad for him tho.

He ruined it basically. Sad cause it was a decent old bike. It would take more money to rewire the bike than it was worth tho.
