Well, hopefully changing the ID of the demo won't do anything in the game. Believe it or not, bugs caused by Japanese save files are so annoying...

...
if i have my save from the japanese language can the my save work with the game you translate to english or i have to make a new save?/sorry for this second question can you give more or less the time you need to finish the beta test?thanks

Save from demo or from the full game?
Like what Team Sky said, you probably have to create a new game because of the glitch or bugs that may occur when loading a jap save to a translated game :)

For your second question, lets just wait announcement from Sky and his Team

As far as official localizations go, you often end up with the saves from the JP and US versions being incompatible with each other, and not necessarily because of the ID... Shouldn't be a problem this one time if the same happened with a fan-translation for once (and it happened before with the Mother 3 translation).

But that's not the job of the team to find solutions for people who played the original JP version which was heavily hacked when translated, breaking stuff in the process (the 2byte>1byte hack, mainly, without it the text would take too much space and the crimson codex would have crashed the game on startup; and then there is a chunk of text that's stored in the save file itself that remains obviously in Japanese, and broken glitchy Japanese: people need to get their priorities straight. I'd choose a working translation without text quality compromises over JP save compatibility any day.
That's certainly not a given.

So, I guess later someone could make a program to "fix" the JP save and make it compatible with the translation? You know, when people get interested in modding/dubbing/save editing the game? This falls outside the scope of the fan-translation anyways.

On the plus side, I get to understand what the heck is going on around me without resorting to walkthrough all the damn time.

Yeah, there is a workaround but it involves some very difficult hacking. Changing the ID of a full game save would definetely work, but would cause some glitches in character names and in battle logs, as those are read from save data (and stored in the save data the first time you save).

SE would have changed the ID anyway if they released it here in other regions so no big deal to me besides if they ever and I really at least believe they will not make a PSP release then it would be different anyway you are just doing the pro way just like them

Now that I think about it a little more the costumes would probably be part of the game and no demo either since it has been this long

uho not sure if online pro-c works for this but I do know it links games by ID so we may not be able to link to others with old ID

But if it works maybe he will crosslink them then and will be able to do it but that is way in the future for now :psp:

FYI at least I do know it works now for original

I would think that making a CWcheat code to get whatever the demo gives you would be much easier than whatever workaround Sky has found. Keeping current save files would probably be an enormous pain, since you'd presumably need to write some sort of manual tool to replace the previously saved, "wrongly" encoded portions with their new, English forms.

You know, i've easily spent 80 hours on Xenogears and 100 hours or so on FF7. I can't really tell you the time I really spent on FF7 because the game clock stopped. I can also remember having an 80 hour save file on .hack//GU 3. But in the case of all 3 games, I was BEYOND SUPER OBSESSED with those games..... And I do mean SUPER OBSESSED. But 300 hours? That's a level I can't even imagine.... Is the game REALLY THAT LONG?!?!? Or did you just leave the game running while you were sleeping sometimes? Because even for ME - a lifetime old school hardcore gamer..... that's Super Insane for a game's playtime!

I'm kind of glad that Lightning returns is out now... keeps me from being impatient and checking up of this forum/blog. Plus it looks like Sky won't be finish until next month. Which by then I'll be playing FF X/X-2 HD.

yall im torn... ive been hacking away at tales of phantasia GBA (the USA version) and have so many documents of reverse engineering i've done
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I just found out that the EU version is better in literally every way, better sound quality, better lighting, and there's even a patch someone made to make the text look nicer
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
Do I restart now using what i've learned on the EU version since it's a better overall experience? or do I continue with the US version since that is what ive been using, and if someone decides to play my hack, it would most likely be that version?
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
@TwoSpikedHands, I'll preface this with the fact that I know nothing about the game, but, I think it depends on what your goals are. Are you trying to make a definitive version of the game? You may want to refocus your efforts on the EU version then. Or, are you trying to make a better US version? In which case, the only way to make a better US version is to keep on plugging away at that one ;)
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm not familiar with the technicalities of the differences between the two versions, but I'm wondering if at least some of those differences are things that you could port over to the US version in your patch without having to include copyrighted assets from the EU version
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
    I appreciate the insight!
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages
  • Veho @ Veho:
It does that when I edit a post.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It inserts a newline in a random spot.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
never had that i don't think
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
do y'all think having an sd card that has a write speed of 700kb/s is a bad idea?
trying to restore emunand rn but it's taking ages... (also when I finished the first time hekate decided to delete all my fucking files )
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the slowest non-sdhc sd cards are a few MB/s
  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
Karma177 @ Karma177: @The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really...
