Ok, so I'm trying to add Names and descriptions for items that do not have them.

So far I have figured this much out:

The item names start here
itemsstart.jpg

I'll copy that part to a new file and go to the pointer.

That leads me to some text.
Adress.jpg

Scrolling down, there is a HUGE chunk missing.
Missing.jpg

For a good reason. The items there have blank descriptions.
OldDescription.jpg

So I edit that part and repoint the description to the right area and...

Some items are, however, missing a pointer to a description or name such as:
MissingDescriptions.jpg
And
MissingNames.jpg

And there is no blank spot for those names

I would like help on adding descriptions or names to those items.

Could be because of a general exercise in rom hacking, or for translation to another language other than English. Not every hacker hacks games to translate them into English. But you did give me a good idea for someonewhodied: you should look into the English versions of the rom to see how the translators handled it. It might be that the translators got lazy and used the same methods as in the Japanese version to translate the game (granted, if the items got descriptions in those versions).

I'm not translating the game. I am simply trying to make the dummy content and props droppable items.
And I've narrowed down the freezing cause on a ds to 1 thing. There is no text to show for those item names/descriptions, causing a freeze since your ds is looking for something that isn't there.

On No$gba, however, it just shows something random to replace missing data.
