Because it's not all flowers and bunnies? No anime/manga type artwork?

Seriously though, if you're gonna say a game isn't good (when everyone else seems to like it a lot), you need to explain WHY you don't like it.

Well, it's a slow burn -- that's for sure. But every time I'm able to push just a little further in, it feels good. Either way, I can't deny the enjoyment I get just from the incredible novelty of how it plays. Surely, it ain't no Elder Scrolls, but it's still a lot of fun. Looks excellent to boot.

Anyone figure out how to get to the other side of that one room (entered into from the rear door of that circle chamber -- it has a secret door that leads back to the gambler dude)? There are two wheels that act like gears, holding up a plank that I could otherwise walk across. Not sure how to lower that, though.

But guyz its baaaaad!

I'm just kidding. The reviews haven't been great but I'll give it a try soon. It seems to be either your cup of tea or not.

True enough, and in Nintendo Power's case, they at least justify their score based solely on opinion. My problem with 1Up's review is that they make it sound like the game's controls are virtually broken when that's clearly not the case. Nothing about the game is broken, and it obviously had tons of effort put into it. But it is slow going, very difficult, and the game pretty much has nothing to do with its namesake.

Has the game freeze for anyone? I've only started but after I gain my first level and went to the attribute window, the game froze on me, couldn't exit, or do anything basically.
Hopefully its just a one-time thing.

Well nothing ever happens to me, I am about 3 hours into the game and no AP or even anything hinting to an AP, so I think it was just some bad luck at the moment for you. My card sometimes freezes, I just take it out and blow into it a little, then it works fine

The controls do suck. They are workable but just barely. The main problem is that the 'look' function works anywhere on the lower screen so if you are hammering on the attack icon, it usually slowly turns you left or right of the target just enough to start missing it. The hit boxes on the monsters need to be much larger to make up for this.

That being said, It's not a bad game. If they were going to do a 2.5D RPG, they should have just ported any of the Ultima Underworld or Might and Magic games and I would have been much happier.

Not sure if your still stuck but you need to go through the waterfall passage in the back of the dining room thats off the ring square. You follow the only route down and it takes you into the boiler room, room with gears holding up plank, it's where you get the portcullis handle from that the gambler dude told you to get.
Hope that all makes sense.

Ah...okay, I think I know which area you're referring to, but I haven't found the handle yet. Are you talking about the place where there are a bunch of very tall statues and a sort of fountain (can't remember if it's a fountain or a waterfall

I don't think so, ring square is a circular room with about eight doors, one being the chieftians room that peon in it, also it has a door called dining room. Also in ring square is a save room, boiler room, a merchant and hallway and main corridor.
Go through dining room and follow the above.

If you touch the map icon, it will tell you the name of whatever room you're in. Find your way around that way. You can touch the door image to navigate around the maps to find where you need to go.

Also, if you walk up to a door you've been through before, it will tell you the name of the room on the other side of that door. But if you have never went into that room before, it will show ???.

Thanks for the help, guys. Found the spot, but as you can attest to, the mage creatures in there can be brutal. Ugh!

It IS an amazing game if you get into the style of gameplay. What really hampers this game most is that the first 2 reviews for it gave it bad marks, and the game had poor distribution to stores. So not a lot of people even really know about it, or think it's crap based on those.....frankly....insane reviews that gave it poor scores.

I had to drive a 60 mile round trip to get my copy.....and I live in a huge metropolis. But I feel it was worth it......in more ways than one.

ok, beat the game at level 55 playing as an assassin with very powerful poison arrows. love the ending. going through again with same character, but this time i'm building up his intelligence for healing. funny thing is, i didn't know about the disarming skill until after i'm replaying it. i'll give it a 8.5 doesn't run on r4origenal1.23, but does on ysmenu

sigh, were is multilayer. maybe next time

How many hours would you guess you put in to it total?

it is a short game, like less then 10 hours. (if counting all my deaths maybe 24), but its fun for me to continue playing. its cool that after beating the game and restart, the only things you lose are key items and all the monsters are much harder

best items found so far
dragon slayer
sword
found after beating the game
requires stamina 26, skill 26, intuition 26
damage 500

dragon greaves
boots
found random create in orc den
requires nothing
armor 99, agility -5
stamina +10, skill +10

dragon chest plate
found save room near nexus
requires nothing
armor 99 agility +50
stamina +10, skill +10

Huh? there's a 1.23 for the R4? I still use 1.18 and this game works flawlessly on that.
