I bought an 8GB Kingston about a year ago, it's always gotten 8MB/s but the more my collection grows, the more I need to keep switching out games, it's hell... Are speeds still increasing?
And virtually every Pro Duo will write faster than that too....your standard cheap Pro Duo should write at around 10-12MB/s using an adapter. Writing direct to the PSP slows things down as the PSP itself serves as the bottleneck.
