hey i bought an 8gb MS pro duo on ebay for $55.00 at . when i received it, i check a bunch of guides to check if it fake, and everything seemed fin except for the sony hologram thing (i didnt get a chance to go to the sony style place yet), and the magicgate thing. it says 'unknown'. everything else was fine though, red 8gb logo on box, right serial numbers... oh and 7844mb capacity on the psp menu.

Yep, it means its fake, and you got ripped off. $55 - ouch!

Go to dealextreme if you want cheap fakes.

It doesn't mean it won't work, it depends on the quality of the fake. I've had a fake 4gb for around 4 months now, hasn't failed me yet.

I've got a fake 8gb from deal extreme

it works great, no slow down in any games/homebrew at all

it's very slow to load things onto initially, but it's more than fast enough to use

I gotta know, does it lag on games like God of War and FF7 Crisis Core? I heard those games need a lot of memory to run so it lags on those. Not too sure what I'm talking about 'cause I'm a psp nublet. But straight to the point, does it lag on those games?

nope, they run fine for me

everyone is so concerned with finding the fastest possible card, they just kinda forget they really only need to find something that is fast enough

Out of curiosity, is it http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12796 ?

If so, could you be so kind as to provide a speed test? I was thinking about getting one myself.. A few of the comments say it's 10 mbps read 3 mbps write, but I don't actually know whether that's good or bad.

that is the one I bought, yup

I posted the results in the blackspeed test section a while back

read is a little better than 10MB's
write is 3+MB's

it's more than fast enough for everything the PSP needs to do

you can spend extra on a different card if you want, but there's no need to

Magicgate unknown on a Sony brand stick = 100% fake sadly. Open a dispute with Paypal and claim that he is selling counterfeit goods, you'll get a full refund.

with my 4GB legit sandisk I get 16mbps read and 6mbps write

can some one tell me the disadvantages of not having magicgate are??
and also, wich of the 3 8GB cards that dx sells is the best one to get???

i got a 4gig fake produo card from memorybits.co.uk and not a single app would run on the psp, so i sent it back and got a full refund then bought a genuine one from the same site and have not had a problem since

Fake 8GB cards are usually 4GB cards with double compression and a different printed label (saying that it's 8GB). Fake 4GB cards are usually 2GB cards with the same. This is the entire basis for the flame against fakes and their lack of MagicGate support - MagicGate only supports uncompressed media.

The fact that it's compressed also hinders the read/write times, and even more than that, the effective lifespan. There is nothing good about buying fakes, unless you're so desperate to play games that you'll put up with the flaws.

As said before, claim it as counterfeit goods, claim a refund, and stay away from eBay/Amazon. It better to use a licensed third party vendor like play.com than all of these random people around the world who wouldn't know quality control if it hit them with a stick.
