Probably because it is physically hard to do. I'm only guessing but could it be that they have some logic which determines it is running on a fake cart and then starts an endless write loop on the SD card to exceed it's write cycle lifetime? That would still take significant time. By this theory only the media would be destroyed, not the actual cart.
