Hacking failure to load homebrew launcher

Hey guys,
Ive followed the 3ds.guide up to finalizing-setup
When i get to launching FBI, the system doesnt load the homebrew launcher. It gets stuck in nintendo 3ds loading screen.
I double checked and all files are in the correct places.
I havent updated my device, its currently in firm 6.0, could it be the problem? Is there any way to update it to firm 11.2 or something that isnt the latest firm (want to use gateway)

Yes. Just choose the correct one for your console model and region.

Can ctrtransfer be used to downgrade as well?
