Hi,

Just found my sons old Nintendo 2DS XL and the EZFlash VI (Black/Gold card).

I put it in and it comes up "Tak The Great Juju Challenge". When we try to launch it we get an error:
"An error has occured. Press and hold the POWER button........"

The Nintendo has been updated to Ver 11.15.0-47E

I haven't used or dealt with these in many many years lol.

Can anyone let me know if this card is dead or just needs updated etc?

And if so can you point me towards what I should do?

Im just looking to get some Pokemon roms on it for him :)

Thanks

The DSi and 3ds both got a flash cart killer upgrade that the EZ5i and a bunch of others never managed to work around* (was mostly the DStwo and whatever was made afterwards that we have today).

You then have two options, assuming you don't have a DS/DS lite to hand which never got blocks on such things.

1) The 3ds has since been hacked completely. You can hack it and install an older backwards compatibility layer (don't know if we have hacked ones to do other fun things yet) from before the major flash cart blocks.

https://github.com/LumaTeam/Luma3DS/wiki/Standard-features (luma3ds is likely the method you will have ended up with at the end of the above, there are some older things though).

2) Various methods are now available for hacked 3ds (and DSi) to run things from the SD card instead.

Playing the games should be fine. The trouble will come with wanting to do either pal park (getting games from the GBA versions to DS) or doing the various transfer methods (getting pokemon from DS to 3ds). Various things exist for that, including simply getting the save out and using a save editor to recreate them.

I will also note the EZ5i stopped getting updates around the flash cart killer update so there were some games later. Pokemon Conquest can be made to work, however I am not sure what goes for the surprise Black 2 and White 2 games that hit after that.

*if you are bored and want the technical background https://hackmii.com/2010/02/lawsuit-coming-in-3-2-1/ is how it started out, then different games got picked, cat and mouse for while before Nintendo seemingly went in for serious checks many seconds into a game and not just able to be emulated up front which knocked things out.
