You will need a slot-1 DS flashcard that will send the rom to the 3in1 
Some models of the 3in1 (you can't see the difference from the outside) are supported directly in Wood kernels; YSMenu supports some more; if they don't work for you, there is a DS homebrew "GBA Exploader" you can use to program the 3in1!
You will also need a battery inside the 3in1 to save, the factory already put one in but they are very small and last only 1-3 years
