I have questions .

EZ miniSD ver can transfer between slot1 cart SD and slot2 cart SD using dualslotbrowser on DS Maybe it is possible.

IF Update 2.05 , Can EZ transfer still possible ?

or if downgrade , will the transfer function be restored ?

I'm also worried about the impossibility of NDS mode .

thanks .

By and large we don't suggest you use the transfer programs -- several bricked EZ4s have happened this way and we have never managed to nail down the reasons (turning off too soon, wrong patch, wrong mode, hardware revision...).

If you want a way to transfer programs to it without finding a SD card reader and miniSD adapter every time then probably better to look into the FTP servers or something using wifi. They are quite slow (DS wifi speeds are capped at something like 2Mbit because they figured nobody would need any more) but still fast enough for most things you will be doing with them. There are also tools to patch DLDI from your DS EZ4 loader if you wanted that for some reason.

As far as working after update to later kernels (which for others reading did include the ability to use SDHC memory and not have to patch GBA ROMs for use) then I don't know and don't know if anybody does. DS mode was lost and no way to restore it to those that I can see. However if you are booting from DS slot then it is not like the EZ4 kernel is loaded during that (one of the reasons suspected for the bricks as it appeared like the loader section, which the EZ4 would likely be presenting if asked until the kernel itself if it was running sets the commands to instead present NOR/PSRAM and reboot into that, was overwritten. There are programs that you might use to restore things, should be in the download section here, but they don't have the best success rate either).

Personally I wouldn't bother updating past 1.72 for the original miniSD models. The newer updates were designed with the microSD models in mind and I'm *pretty sure* (?) they dropped the DS mode functionality. That is if the miniSD models even let you flash newer kernels in the first place.

The only advantage you might get by updating past 1.72 is the auto-patching functionality from 2.0+ kernels, but imo patching your games once before putting them on your SD card is really not a big deal. You patch them once and then you never have to worry about it ever again.

If you're interested in clearlooks v5 I have 1.72RESET with it here. Should be all you need, the reset variant of the kernel forces a hard reset when loading a game which fixes certain games without breaking any of them and so I recommend it over the regular one.

Thank you for your reply

I see, EZ 4 is complicated

Oh the restore program is probably EZ4 OS tools 1.0
(Thanks to dear FAST6191's download page)

As dear Takokeshi says
I thought keeping EZ4 loader below 1.72 is better

I've recently got back into GBA stuff and I'm using 2.05 on a miniSD model, with a MiniSD to MicroSD converter. No issues. I'm not convinced there's any difference between the MiniSD and MicroSD models other than the card reader type.

There are differences, FAST6191 would know more about the specifics though.

2.05 works on the older models of course, I just don't see it as a necessary upgrade personally. There were a few interim upgrades between 1.72 and 2.0+ that I know didn't work at all on the old models though.

Interesting, thanks I wasn't aware of that. I haven't used any of this stuff for so long I forgot a lot of this. I recall now from looking at my old MiniSD that I did once make use of NDS_Backup_Tool to dump saves off my original NDS games.

Yeah, DS mode slot-2 was awesome for dumping games and for save data backup/restore. These days the DSi and 3DS do this fairly well, but for a time the EZ4 was my only option lol.

This file helped me a lot, I coudn't find anywhere a 1.72 kernel version, and my ez flash iv was "bricked" because I updated it to last kernel version with an old mini sd card. Since I don't want to buy the mini to micro sd adapter (VERY expensive where I leave for no reason) Finding a 1.72 kernel version was my only option. Now I have a functional cartidge again! If you have more skins of this version, please reply, I would love to have some cool skins. Thanks!

Having an EZ4 MiniSD, I have no love for the EZ transfer program. once they finally released that firmware update to allow the thing to boot clean roms, I flashed to it and never looked back. I think the most I ever had to do with the cart since was to replace the original battery, which was easy enough to source the requisite battery locally and then use some off the shelf soldering tools.

I just keep a micro-to-miniSD adapter and knock on wood, it's been trucking along since.

Do you have the program to make customs skins for this kernel? also do you have more skins of this kernel version? thx

I know it's 2026 but if anyone is looking for any solutions to this 20+ year cart, EZ Flash IV microSD version marking on the back: EZ402 2006.03, that won't update, I was able to fix it by purchasing a new microSD->miniSD card adapter. SanDisk brand if that matters. My prior adapter was also SanDisk as well and looked undamaged... so honestly, I have no clue why it "broke"?

I bought it off eBay for $5 since this thing is archaic and you really can't find them anywhere. This was recommended by some threads when I was searching around and saw how many people were having trouble with this old cart.

I formatted a 256MB microSD card using rufus using FAT 4096 bytes for cluster size. I flashed this 1.72 RESET firmware from this thread, then afterwards I used the 2.05 FLAT kernel (https://gbatemp.net/threads/ez-flat-iv-2-05-a-skin-for-your-ez-flash-iv-card-kernel-2-05.477216/). I wanted to be able to auto-patch and have hotkeys.

Before getting a new adapter I had tried using a 256MB and 1GB formatted using the same above settings. Trying to load up any of the kernels out there, I would just get a blank black screen or sometimes a scrambled pink/black box. I thought it was toast but I also notice that when I tried to browse files on the card it said FAT file system error. So I figured it was having issues reading all together and decided to purchase a new adapter.

Hope this is helpful to others!
