Hacking Ez 3 in 1

I just got my ez flash 3 in 1 expansion pack GBA size, and the bottom is open and the contacts are exposed, kind of like the neo2 picutre on the review page. Have they always been this way? The pictures of it show it like a regular gba cartridge. I will post pictures if any requests.
