Gaming External SSD drive?

I have my Wii games connected to to my Wii via an external 2.5" 500GB USB hard drive. Would I get much of a performance increase (load times etc) if I swapped it for a 500GB SSD?

If it was an internal drive then I'd be certain....not sure if the USB connection would allow a big improvement?

I don't think you'd see much of a change if any and since Wii homebrew doesn't understand SSD trimming or have any kind of cache flushing it could kill the drive if you lose power to the enclosure.
