**Ok... So this is mainly pointed at people that SoftModding Wii's with Homebrew and Gamma for friendship/profit/service/multiple consoles.

I am finally coming to a conclusion about why people are having so many issues with compatibility issues and they are not getting the majority result.

(My Specs are NTSC USA Wii Consoles)

This is from my experience from roughly Soft Modding Homebrew and installing Gamma with cios rev7.

    A little personal history...

I found out about the famous first leak of the backup launcher through one of my private torrent sites. I thought to myself, this is interesting. Now I may not have to buy my 6 year old stepson Wii games anymore. So... I read the entire Waninoko Leaked fiasco and raised an eye brow... Went and purchased the TPLOZ game that was exploited by Team Twiizers. I did the hack and tried Wan's beta. Slow loading times for my first game Star Wars Forced Unleashed and Lego Batman...but they worked! So I continued to get involved and learn everything I could about Wii Homebrewing and the backup launcher project...which was abandoned by Waninoko for personal reasons and was picked up by WiiGator which formed quite an interesting result. And here we are now.

Between the .3 and Gamma release until now I have been softmodding Wii's for extra cash. I know some people's opinions on this and I really don't care what they
think. Moving on... to what I have experienced from doing numerous softmods on Wii consoles is this...

I have a collection of roughly 200 .iso's ranging from mostly NTSC 1:1, PAL 1:1, and various scrubbed and patched/decrypted copies. Out of the 200 only about 5 do not load my games on my 2 softmodded Wii consoles.

Now on others I have softmodded for service/friendship/profit/services I have ran into situations where not all of my copies would work as they did on my 2 personal Wii consoles. So if you are having issues with games not working and you know that you are using good media/burn methods. Then chances are that your Wii is just not going to play that backup game that the majority of the Wii consoles out there can play. Some of these games still may only need a simple reburn.. Yes, I have tried this and it has worked on rare occasion. It was a different brand of disc and burn at 2.4x speed with Imgburn which is what I have used for every single disc I have burned for the Wii console. I also noticed that the .3 version of WiiGators loader seemed more reliable to running the same discs, don't ask me why. This may have just been a coincidence.

**My own conclusion/theory of this is that not all Wii consoles are manufactured with the same parts. (Duh!) Resulting in scanning/reading discs a little differently than each other. (They have their own personalities, so to speak.) Some can scan/read discs better than others... Some just won't take anything but good quality media because they are more sensitive to the discs. Which will result in an original or reburning with a very top quality disc.

Reason for writing this: I have seen numbers after numbers of threads with the same kind of messages about same games that work for a majority of us soft modders and not for a few or just one person.

So I hope this helps shed some light on the subject. Because in my world, experience is always the best knowledge to have under your belt. [IMG]

Good luck and hope your Wii can read brail like my 2 personal Wii's can.

**I also wanted to add that most of my disc are DVD-R and some are DVD+Rs. It's up to you which is better... I personally haven't seen much of a difference.

    Oh man... IronMask...
I have said this for modchipped Wii's as well...

    Lets just say...

You can lead a horse to a pool or water...
But you can't make them drink it...
    lol..

An I'm sure a certain person on here as always is gonna yell at you about the 2.4x burn speeds...
    but alas... Nice information...
    thanks...

How did you know? I really think it's really really stupid for DVD-Rs.

    @topic:
I have seen some people reporting their Wiis read either DVD+R(with bitsetting) or DVD-R better. And of course the different versions of the Wii have different drives.

Makes all the sense in the world ...
Maybe it would be of interest for all of us to start compiling a list of drive types and burn/Media combinations to kind of make an end all thread for wii hacks ... that way we can all look at our wii specific topics ... I dunno, just an idea

I have 3 different drives I have tried using regularly... they are a Sony DVD burner, a LITE-ON, and a Light Scribe Super Writemaster... All basic... and of course I have a fourth internal but never use...

Wouldn't it be a good idea for you to get a test tool to analyse the quality of your burns? I don't need it, everything is working fine for me, but with such a tool you could tell that you really have good burns and not just 2 good wii drives, which "eat" even "bad" burns.

    I thought I was seeing um double..i mean triple....shit...

yea... i have a rather large collection and still growing... i just am really getting more interested in some customization of the menus and stuff... It would be real nice to sell really nice customized Wii's inside and outside.

But.. I still standby my observation of quite a few different consoles... and I only know of one other pal on here that has modded just as many...and he is not around to let me know what he thinks as well... but anyways... my point was to be careful and make sure you test the games you burn on their Wii before leaving it behind...

    Happy Holidays!

You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him thirsty...[IMG]

From my experience with ps2, you need an oscope to make the drive perform at maximum efficacy. Personally, my wii drive is great. It could be production deviations and the workers involved...

i have had some iso's that burn better on lower quality media.
one case was my Excite Truck backup on maxell dvd-r i burned 2 coasters but on my third try i used a jvc cheapo dvd-r it worked flawlessly.

Well, more efficient loading resulted in dying for ps2 lasers. I hope this will not happen to Wiis, i guess the lasers of the Wii are far better than the ps2 ones. Modchips came out very early and there aren't a lot of people with died Wii lasers, this or i read at the wrong places.

Well the screwed up thing is...is that most of these Wii's I am modding are coming literally straight out of the box. So... it would be definately nice to find some way of making sure they are running optimized for best performance.

    Open them up.

Gets rid of all the guessing. Once you are sure the hardware is the same you can move on to see if it is System menu version or IOS versions that are different.

I don't know you from a hole in the ground ironmask but is anyone really an "Experienced" softmodder yet..??

It's only been out a few months.

From all this BS you will become experienced.

I'm not saying you are wrong.

You have to be so damn careful what you say to people on these forums nowadays.

Hardware modders should know how to une the lasers. I still would recommend you to test the qualitiy of your burns with some testing tool, i think there's one integrated in Nero. I think it's a good idea to improve both media and laser as much as possible.

Point made, 420.. (and you guys do have the best weed)...

Just saying that it hasn't happened much but there have been about 3 out of 20 that act funny towards backups.. and that is why I feel that way. Who knows though... maybe we will eventually have more control over these kind of things... like I said at the beginning of my 1st post... this is from the time it leaked til now and these are the most common issues....

    Send me an elbow.

For what its worth I just wanted to verify the same basic results. I will say my personal Wii is about 9-8 months old and will seem to play anything on any media, while others about 18 months old do not seem to have as high of a success rate.
