Gaming eShop without updating?

I just got a switch and I don't really want to update until Atmosphere is released and I know 100% what the capabilities are.

However, I'd really like to download a few games, which I cannot do without updating.

Is there any way for me to access eShop games or somehow side-load official binaries?

You can update to 5.1.0 without burning any efuses if you follow the guide. That will allow you to downgrade if you ever want to.

Out of curiosity, which version are you currently on?

3.0.2 currently. I'll check out that guide, thanks for the link. I've been mildly aware of the Switch hacking scene but I haven't really read anything in depth yet. I suppose it is time to dive right in.

It should be noted that, in order to keep your efuses from being burnt, you will have to install AutoRCM as part of the above guide.

If I install sxos can I later switch to Atmosphere?
