I recently stumbled across a Just Dance mod I've been wanting to play.

However I keep getting this Error, #001, and I have no idea how to fix it.

I spent a lot of time (more than I'm willing to admit) trying. I tried to install the cios, used BootMii, tried out 3 completely different USB Loaders, changed settings in them, changed the console to Region Free via Priiloader, looked up tons of videos and still came up short with no solutions.

I'm not sure how to fix this, can anyone help?

I read something about this issue with a Just Dance Mod and this particular error a couple hours ago in another thread. If I remeber correctly it has something to do with the Original Game beeing on a single layer disc, but the Mod exceeding the size where it should be a double layerdisc, without the Modder changing the image accordingly.

I'll try to see if I can find the post(s) again.

Found it!
So it starts on the pinned/sticky USB Loader GX Thread around page 1325 post ##26,492 and then it goes on for a few pages. Hope it might help you out.

Sorry, can't link to it directly.

EDIT:
A (possible) solution is listed on page 1327, post #26,529 and the explanation with the size on the same page post #26,533 - #26,534 and beyond.

PimpMyWii has always worked for me. Much easier to get fully modded than having to manually install crap using a PC with ModMii.
Pimp my wii has also bricked a number a of consoles, and modmii has never bricked a single console, but you do you.

edit: I'd like to see a syscheck of a Wii updated using pimpmywii to evaluate the black box of mods it will install to a console. Since you've used it successfully, perhaps you'll share your syscheck here for us to have a peek and see what exactly it is doing when it isn't bricking consoles

Ugh, it's all the way out in the garage, no thanks.

Maybe someone would be so kind as to make a Wii version of ModMii, if it's "so brick proof". Oh wait, that would make modding a Wii too easy for the masses, and we can't have that...

No worries, but perhaps in the meantime you'll think twice about recommended pimp my wii. It is a fact that pimp my wii has bricked consoles in the past, and it is a question mark as to what it actually does when it "works".

Just so we're clear, you're not happy with the semi-manual procedure suggested by ModMii or wii.guide or any method other than pimp my wii. Rather than have users learn about the mods they're making to their consoles and what they do, you would have them trust a black box app like pimp my wii that has a track record of bricking consoles. Do you hear yourself?

And it doesn't get much easier than ModMii to mod a wii. Here's an example of a ModMii guide. Steps are 1) Format SD card, 2) Exploit, 3) make a nand backup, 4) Install WADs, 5) Install Priiloader (Step 5 comes before step 6 if a new system menu is not being installed), the 6th step of reinstalling the HBC if applicable will no longer be needed after my next ModMii update. Even if you were to use pimp my wii, the first 3 steps should be done before running pimp my wii and PMW doesn't help you accomplish this to my knowledge. And recall we haven't even begun to evaluate the quality of the mods PMW makes whereas ModMii is always fully aligned with wii.guide and other generally accepted modding principles of the wii scene\community. At best pimp my wii is helping you save 1 step; most likely pimp my wii is missing a bunch of important things, and at worst pimp my wii is installing garbage that might brick you.

There are some things that an app like pimp my wii will never be able to do that ModMii can. Like using an exploit to install the HBC and launch pimp my wii in the first place. Or things like installing neek or constructing an emunand, I'm not sure if pimp my wii installs priiloader, but if it does I doubt it gets updated frequently. Even the hacks_hash.ini has been updated somewhat recently for deflicker patches. What about installing d2x cIOSs? Does it install a stock IOS70 or IOS80 thereby leading to potential 003 brick risk for poorly region changed consoles? Does pimp my wii help users make a nand backup or format their SD card or HDD? I could go on, like how ModMii can help you mod a wii even if the Wii doesn't have wifi, I'm not sure if pimp my wii can do that; certainly not without manually putting IOS files in the right places on the sd card or USB. Seriously there is so much to unpack here that it isn't worth my time and effort.

At the end of the day, in my opinion it doesn't really matter if pimp my wii can do all these things as it's left a trail of bricked wiis in it's wake.

If I would know anyone to say one method is trash or the other, it's you.

But also, you're not explaining why it can cause bricks. Genuinely interested other than, "ModMii is a PC based app that uses external tools"

People just want an all-in-one solution that runs ON THE WII ITSELF, without the need for a PC. That's where PimpMyWii shines. That's my point in all of this.

RUNS. ON. THE. WII.

I don't know exactly why it causes it bricks, there could be many reasons. It's not my tool and I don't recommend it so I have no reason to investigate causes.

I can speculate though; it could be installing a stock IOS80 on 4.3 Wii's that were originally Korean and poorly region changed; this would cause 003 brick (and in fact official updates could cause this kind of brick too, and RC24 patcher as well; I have talked to the RC24 team about making some changes to handle IOS80 the way modmii does to control for this risk, it's on their to do list). It could be doing what Waninkoko's old 4.1 or 4.2 updater apps did in the past, and retrieve the latest IOS60 or 70 when updating (instead of retrieving hardcoded unstubbed version numbers), but later those IOSs were updated to be stubs so would cause brick if still running 4.1 or 4.2. Another potential reason could be the old ahbprot network init bug, this was an issue when apps launched via an older HBC with ahbprot arg's would sometimes freeze if the Wii didn't have WiFi enabled. If running a tool like IOS236 installer and it failed it wasn't an issue; however if the wii froze in the middle of say a priiloader installation that would have led to a semi-brick. Or if a freeze is experienced in the middle of anything crucial.

Take it all with a grain of salt, as I said this is speculation and I am NOT a pimp my wii expert (I would argue such a thing doesn't exist, it's not like it's open source even though it should be as it is almost certainly using GPL code). I have just seen enough brick reports over the years to know not to recommend it. I wasn't the one to give it it's infamous nickname "brick my wii", that was earned all by itself (I almost wish I could take credit). In fact I generally try to avoid using that nickname these days as too many people have implied I'm just jealous, lol. Anyone who knows me knowz that I don't care about that, if that were true I wouldn't recommend wii.guide as often as a do as a very good ModMii alternative (albeit without as many bells and whistles).

In any case, I have wasted far too much time already discussing PMW. If anyone still wants to use it by all means go ahead.

People just want an all-in-one solution that runs ON THE WII ITSELF, without the need for a PC. That's where PimpMyWii shines. That's my point in all of this.

RUNS. ON. THE. WII.
okay, so how does PMW help u format your sd card, set up and launch an exploit and make a nand backup? What good is a tool that "runs on the wii" but doesn't help you run it in the first place or skips important steps? An all-in-one tool that runs solely on the wii will NEVER be able to do those prerequisite steps. In theory if pimp my wii were perfect, which it isn't (remember those brick reports you conveniently ignored?), users would still need help getting to the point of launching pimp my wii.

In any case, until I see a syscheck of a wii that had pimp my wii run on it there's no point debating. I highly doubt the end-result is optimal. I just tried finding the latest version of pimp my wii, and the best I could find was something 8 years old, and that was after avoiding a bunch of shady links.

Unless someone actually shares some NEW information like the requested syscheck from a Wii that has used PMW I do not plan on continuing this conversation any further.

Hello,

Modmii has a lot more advantages compared to Pimp my wii.

this is just my opinion:

Pimp my wii, you have to know how to use it correctly, and not install a whole bunch of things that are useless at the risk of bricking the wii.

I'm so close to pulling out my Wii, cleaning it and seeing what it does - haven't messed with Wii stuff, specifically Wii hardware not on Wii U for years

Oh, this is like that cIOS blanket patch that let you use the disc channel to bypass any and all checks :D
you're referring to cIOScorp or DarkCorp; and I have no idea if PMW does something like this

@jeannotte , are those syschecks from a console that ran Pimp My Wii? If so the end result isn't as horrible as I imagined, but as you say, you have to know how to use PMW correctly and not install a whole bunch of things that are useless or a risk of bricking the wii.

yes, look how pimp my wii install d2x CIOS on both syscheck reports:

IOS249[56] (rev 21010, Info: d2x-v10beta52): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0
IOS250[57] (rev 65535, Info: d2x-v10beta52): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0
IOS251[58] (rev 21010, Info: d2x-v10beta52): Trucha Bug, NAND Access, USB 2.0

for IOS, I let you judge :D

The d2x version number not being 65535 isn't a big deal.

I'm not a fan of the patched ios36.

The 4.3 wii seems to have a system menu IOS that is base 80, and the 4.2 wii has a system menu ios that is base 70. So if these wiis were originally Korean and poorly region changed PMW would have 003 bricked them. These situations are not as rare as some might think. If everyone used PMW then I'm sure it would cause lots of 003 bricks that should be easily avoidable, that being said the same can be said for official updates and rc24 so PMW isn't alone on this one.

I'm not sure what hermes v55.1 is all about, seems the v5.1 cios's weren't signed properly.

Slot 251 is generally recommended to be base 38 and not 58 these days, but not a huge deal either.

Hermes cios's are generally seen as unnecessary these days but again not a big deal.

I'm not sure why the 4.2 wii has a patched ios60, 70 and 80 but no lower system menu IOS slots. And the 4.3 wii has just a patched ios80. I would expect more consistent results, either ios's on other system menu IOS slots for extra protection or not. And if it's for extra protection they should be base 60.

Does PMW install priiloader for u too? Or did u have to do that manually? What about bootmii and the hbc? If PMW installed priiloader, what version? And are hacks outdated?

At the end of the day the output isn't horrible. but as you say, you have to know how to use PMW correctly and not install a whole bunch of things that are useless or a risk of bricking the wii. Maybe this is intuitive, maybe not, I've never used it.

Also I'm sure PWM doesn't grab apps like usbloaders and such, and help u format hdd's, so while it MAY help with 1 click softmods, it will probably lead to more questions down the road since the user learned nothing during the softmod process.

Anyway, all in all, the PMW syscheck's aren't as bad as I thought they would be. I'm still not sure how it has bricked consoles in the past or what other outputs it is capable of, but I will concede that based on these 2 syschecks alone it didn't do anything horrible.
