Hi, I am having trouble getting ePSXe to read my playstation game disks.

version: ePSXe v1.7.0

does not even try to read cd. familiar sounds not heard from cd drive. light also not blinking as usual. appears as if it doesn't even try to load. tried all of my playstation cds. none work. none have been backed up. all originals in excellent condition. ntsc format. have not tried backing up and using daemon tools yet. dont want to; takes up alot of valuable space thus lowering the overall efficiency of my system. I get no errors messages that pop up; simply a black screen/window. used default and fastest settings.

running from a windows xp laptop. using the recommended plugins; tried several. my disk drive works well for playing and ripping cds and dvds. have not tried to write cd's yet. but it is possible.

help would be much appreciated.

i have had another psx emulator working a year ago and it ran the cds. but since then i have reinstalled windows 3 times and i now have a brand new hard drive.

this thought was briefly considered by me: perhaps I have a bad bios...

Don't really know about the CD error, but PSX games aren't big. Average maybe 300-600MB.

Just rip/back them up and run them like that.
I have 3 Digimon (Yes, kiddy, I know) ISOs on my PC right now and they total a little less than 1GB so they really don't take up much space.

just a thought, but have you tried psx v1.13? If you could try it there, it would be easier to isolate the problem, depending on whether you could get it to run under psx or not

ok, i just tried psx 1.13 and it worked well from cd. lagging noticeably, but it works. but i heard epsxe is supposed to be better... any way i can get it working? we now know it is not a hardware problem and it must have to do with the ePSXe itself... I have played backups and cds with psx before and the sound would lag like mad. (can almost not understand at all due to the sound lagging).

and by the way, it is not possible to upgrade my computer's ram to something higher. and my controller works (yay)

yea, looks like you're severely lacking in RAM, definitely upgrade if u can...in fact, the fact that you're still on a pentium III...it's probably cheaper to get a new PC XD

I've never personally lagged in any ps1 game, then again, i don't have an antique PC...what you can try is to create iso out of the game and try to run it from the iso. It should be easier for emulator to read from iso than from a CD. Also, is the game you're trying in the compatible list for psx and/or epsxe?

er... prob. not... where should i find these lists?
anyway, here is a list of my ps1 games:
gta2
crash bandicoot 2: cortex strikes bask
crash team racing (also known as CTR)
ape escape
metal gear solid
chicken run

gta2 does not lag btw. the others do i think... as far as i can remember...

hmm, assuming that those are NTSC-U games, psx at least should be able to handle them without much problem. I'm afraid it is your PC. Like i've said, try the ISO option. You can create ISO from a CD using IMGburn. If that won't work, well, then it's really time to upgrade I'm afraid...

yeah they are all ntsc-U. i might upgrade this winter, and i will use er.. nero to make the rom images (iso or ccd cdz whatever)

hey.. you tink i can get psx or epsxe working on a memory stick? (with the psx cd in the dvd drive) i can play at the library if it'l work. i will test it out

I just tried ePSXe and psx on a windows vista desktop computer and it works PERFECTLY. no lagging on either of them.
i even ran them off of an sd card. they both read my game disk well. but now when i try it on my laptop, it dont work...
