Homebrew emunand vs reg 3ds with menuhax/ironhax

I have a N3ds xl that have menuhax and ironhax with firmware 10.
My friend, on the other hand, have a 3ds with emunand and rxtools. He said that he can access homebrew via CIA.
I'm aware that emunand give you access to be able to update your firmware while keeping your base firmware, so i thought it can be treated as a separate system(?)


My question is that, can he install menuhax and ironhax inside that emunand, so that he have more entry points to homebrew?

Also, i have googled CIA but i still really dont understand about it.

If someone can answer my question that will be terrific. And im really sorry for the noob question, but i really need to ask cause i dont wanna miss out on trying to install emunand if it's better to have than just installing menuhax and ironhax.

@Ammako thank you for answering! his sysNAND is 4.2 , and im wondering what are the benefits from having such a low firmware. Can he do the qr code scanner exploit with his 3ds?

    Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

    @Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.
