Hacking DVD Disc Vs USB HDD

Hey guys,

What are the differences between the two, i am currently using DVD discs as they are cheap and it is no bother but i seen a 250gb external for only £37 and wondered if there was any benefit of using the HDD instead.

HDD has huge benefits over DVD. The biggest benefit is the speed. DVD-R runs at 3x speed, while original Wii games run at 6x speed.
I've seen some speedtest on youtube where they say USB runs at 18 x speed.

And it's far easier to switch games without having to walk up to your wii and change discs

Is there a guide on here anywhere on how to format it and then have it iso/WBFS ready?

Another question regarding the HDD, i currently have stuff for HBC etc on an SD Card, do i place all the SD Card items onto the HDD by simply 'dropping' them in keeping the file structure or do i keep the SD Card?

I have 50 games using 100GB. It depends on real size of the game (most games scrubbed are 2~3gb)

Use wii backup manager. It does all the work for you (scrub, convert to .wbfs, transfer to hdd etc)

I prefer HDD loading. Because its easier, faster, and when you install a game using your retail disc it removes the system menu update the game has.

Yes, unless you need to store 4gb+ files for another reason.

Most programs that convert from iso to wbfs split games into 4gb parts so fat32 will be fine

another reason = non wii related. HD Movies, backup etc.

I prefer NTFS for my games and movies, while FAT32 is for apps and computer stuff.

My 320GB holds about 10 games currently, and it's not even beginning to be full. Of course, I trim my ISOs.

i have a 500 gb partition on my 1 tb drive and i was able to fit 283 games on it of course that varies with what ever games you put on it. personally i feel the best way that worked for me was to have three partitions one fat32 second wbfs and last ntfs. (yes i still use wbfs for my wii games when wiiflow first came out thats all that was supported. never felt like changing) the fat 32 i use for the homebrew such as emulators the wbfs is for games and the ntfs was for movies and tv.

i started usb loading for the ease of use but the real benefit as mentioned before is the speed alot of games with cutscenes wii "skip" or play choppy and was just plain annoying

I know that one year ago, there was some lagging on somme game when using softmode and DVDs

Faster, more convenient, wider compatibility most times

I did DVD for a time but caved and bought a nice drive for $60, haven't looked back

I prefer HDD, because it's faster and you don't have to switch discs. It also saves money in the long run, so you don't have to burn so many DVD-R discs to play your games.

Not that I know of. The latest Neogamma runs should backups at full speed as far as I know.
