My kid brother recently bought a PSP, in the system info it says it's using the 2.81 software version. I would like to know what equipment I need and what software I need to downgrade the PSP to a version where I can run backups and other homebrew. I dont' really understand the whole thing, so hoping someone can provide a step by step guide on what to do.

I've done a bit of googling but I'm not sure I understand what I'm doing.

Thanks in advance

I suppose you're not that good at googling, then?

Anyway, check this site out: http://forums.maxconsole.net/forumdisplay.php?f=80
It's very good. If you do a bit of searching around, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

Also, you might want to check this site out: http://www.pspdowngrade.com/PSP_Downgrade_Guide.html

Generally, downgrading a PSP is very easy, but can be a bit risky - so be careful when you're attempting the downgrade.

Good luck.

thanks for the links, I'll check them out. I've done a bit more googling and found you need a copy of GTA LC to downgrade. Is this still the case, and if not what are the other methods that don't require a game

I'm not aware of any non-game requiring downgrade for any version ABOVE 2.71
You'll need to pick up old version (unpatched) of GTA, or these day Lumines is more popular (still need to get unpatched version)

there's three versions of lumines on amazon, including the sequel and a players choice type variety, I assume I want the original retail rather than either of the other two then?

Cheers

A user called 'tr.' has posted in our comments section that the very latest Japanese 'Greatest Hits' versions of Lumines have been patched to require the v3.51 firmware.

Can anyone verify this news, either for Japanese version, or indeed new copies in other regions?

In the meantime, people buying new copies of Lumines should obviously be careful.

You can't run the downgrader from a downloaded copy of Lumines. If you read the documentation, you'd know that. If you didn't read the documentation, just how did you think that would work?
All other versions should be fine

It works on all US, EU and JP versions of the original Lumines game, including Platinum, Greatest Hits and The Best versions. As far as we know, the Australian and New Zealand versions are identical to EU or US, so those should work too. It does not work on Lumines II, and it does not work on Lumines+ (that's for PS2 anyway, dummy! Wink )

ok i'm looking at buying a memory stick - i understand i'm looking at a pro stick duo or something (not sure what it's called), and how much i'm looking to pay for it - so i need advice on what stick to get, whether buying a 4gb stick will be a problem, and where best to but it from in the UK

cheers

4gigs shouldn't be a problem as far as I know, as for where to get it in the UK, maybe divineo has them at a good price?

p.s. No word on my system yet (sadly)

well i found a few shops that sell the stick online, it's about £10 a GB for a 4GB stick. I dont' have a problem with that. What I am confused about is the PSP is a 2.81 software version, so which game do I use to downgrade it? Will the Lumines exploit work on all PSPs?
