Ahhh I see.

@Jam the case where the hinges are, are broken. the only thing holding the top screen together is the wiring in the middle.

REPLACEMENT CASE HO!!!
you'll probably need these as well unless you already have them.

Considering your DS is unusable as is you've not got much to lose by attempting to replace the case. Its not particularluy difficult and you can make it whatever colour you want! (I have a Matte Black DSPhat thanks to case mods

)

To be fair all DS replacement cases are matte. The DSphat itself is matte. No fingerprint magnets here.
Here's a few different colours.

Sky Blue
Electric Blue
Black
Red
Interesting Red+Black design with DSL symbol on top
PINK!

Youtube is a friend for disassembly and reassembly by steps in reverse. I followed a guide here but in the 2 years since I used it many of the pictures have died. Still pretty good for written instructions.
