Well... I didn't get a DSi yet, and I probably won't ever.
My cellphone has a camera too, and I always take it with me, so no need for the DSi's camera. The musicplayer and sound recording features aren't that useful either. I own a M3 Real and the moonplayer serves me pretty fine, even for videos, and with the headset I got, the DS even has a damn loud sound that will even hurt in my ears.

Then the DSi doesn't play GBA games anymore, and there are too much of them I REALLY like so I wouldn't want to miss them. I use my ipod touch for internet stuff like IRC, browsing or instant messaging or mail... so no need for a quicker internet connection either.

In my oppinion Nintendo could have made SO much more out of the DSi, so I think it's merely dissappointing... ^^
Oh well and not to mention that it's even thinner than the DS Lite which really sucks for hours of gaming compared to the phat one. I have to use a case for it, in order to be able to hold it right, and it would get even worse with teh DSi... DSL FTW! ^^

I again state what I said way back on page 2 but everyone seemed to ignore... It seems like a gimmick right now because there aren't any DSi games out.

If the original DS had been released with only GBA games available to play on it, everyone would have said the DS was a gimmick.

I just hope the DSi games aren't like the recently released DSi Enhanced games.

actually, is DSi ware cool?
thats one of the reason holding me back on getting it
furthermore, can i purchase DSi points online?

EDIT: i am considering getting a DSi bundle pack for SAGA2

There are some really great DSiWare such as Picopict, Aquia, Mario Vs. DK and Mighty Flip Champs.

Nintendo should have given up on the whole DS thing, and started making something else, but they ares still getting and guzzling down all the money that's coming from all those imagine games

I know I'm gonna get flamed.

But regardless...

Unfortunately I see the DSi as nintendos attempt to catch up with cell phones and other mobile devices.Because of the iPhones existence people now demand that any portable device they have has tons of apps on it, camera, video, music, email, internet, games, and so forth. The Original DS could only do games. Although Media Players and Flash Carts were have been released that work with the DS Lite they are not announced to the general public or supported by nintendo. But now they can with the DSi. With 10 second video recording, only one format for music, no video, very limited number of apps, and the sacrifice of the GBA slot they can have a completely watered down version of what flash cart owners have.

I am an iPhone owner. I had the first generation one and currently have the 3G one. The iPhone can play amazing games that rival both the PSP and DS. There are other smart phones out there too like the blackberry storm, the android, and so forth. It just seems kind of like a waste to buy yet another device that plays certain audio formats, very short recordings, a camera, internet application and wi-fi included, and so on when there are much better portable devices out there. The brighter screen, bigger display, better d-pad buttons, and better sound really sound like the only reasons to upgrade. But at least nintendo tried. They just upgraded their ds lite a little assuming it would be enough to get attention and figured it would be a hit and than release maybe a ds 2 a year or two later...

But now people who haven't been able to do applications, music, and voice recordings can finally do it on their DSi.

Good for them

((So yes if it catches on than I guess it is a fad))

I agree with you. Obviously, Nintendo sees the iPhone as a competetor to the DS and had to release another handheld system to rival the iPhone equally. I disagree with you applauding Nintendo on releasing, imo a waste of money. $200 (CAD (where I live) for a slightly better system. Then again, we haven't seen DSi exclusive games yet. I tried to resist myself from purchasing the DSi but something about Nintendo products sucks me into buying them.

Absurd. Give up on the DS. Sure they'll probably release a new system in the next 2 years but give up on the DS now. Preposterous.

(DISCLAIMER: this is just MY opinion, its ok if you think im talking crap!)

Im a looong time DS/Nintendo fan.. got my Phat during release week in Aus, upgraded to a Lite, have heaps of carts, i use an original R4 (still!) and have enjoyed it for homebrew, emulators and mutlimedia that comes with it..ie moonshell, Neo Geo, SnemulDS, NesDs, DSO, Beup etc...all this made it a one stop shop for on the road gaming and multimedia. Epic love from day one.

BUT...
I recently got an ipod touch (2nd gen) and have been totally blown away by it! I havnt even touched my DS in a month (a big thing for me to say!) and it doesnt look like i will be picking it up for a while yet. Its got my music, movies, games, apps, web browser, random crap... capable of a shite-load more than my DS out of the box and it out-powers the DS to no end. Bluetooth, accelerometer, multitouch, bigger screen, TV/AV out, app store, itunes... etc. And its fast..slim..and cheap.
And thats not 'jailbroken' either.

For the moment...my DS holds the torch because of its catalogue of titles and game franchise's like mario, zelda, pokemon, metroid and the like. The iphone/touch dosnt have a roster of games anything like that yet, but it is growing and damn FAST. The graphics are incredible and the button-less interface and tilt-controls are a big step in handheld gaming.
I thought the big'N could have gone the extra mile to keep ahead, not keep up with what we've already had for years on other consoles with flashcarts and now... we have it again with more tricks from other companies.

The FAD...is a touch screen interface
The FAD...is wi-fi
The FAD...is apps and D/L content
The FAD...is mutlimedia
The FAD...is a camera

The FAD...is everywhere you look right now...not just with the DSi.

Right after we see Rockstar99 DSi "hack", on July 15, then it should most definitely become a fad, I'm really dissapointed with my DSi but then again I only had a DS phat.

However things would change, if Yasu would finally show us how to hack our DSi's...

This is a little fragment from an article now on IGN where they look at how the DSi's doing. Firstly they do give the machine some credit (what Nintendo did right) so it's not all negative but read this. I agree with EVERY word they say:

QUOTE said:
Even with that 1000 point incentive, it's hard to believe that the Nintendo DSi is 40 dollars "better" than its predecessor. Yes, there are two cameras (.3 megapixel, weaker than most cellphones) and yes the system has internal storage (256 megabytes is a paltry amount considering you can get a 2 Gigabyte SD card for 10 bucks nowadays. And, of course, the new system removes the GBA slot from the picture, removing a major selling point from the handheld standard: backward compatibility. The DSi pretty much hammered the final nail into the Game Boy casket, and without that slot not only do gamers lose out on hundreds of older-school classics, but also DS-specific titles – like Guitar Hero On Tour and Tony Hawk's Motion -- that utilize the slot for unique peripherals. That's hard to ignore, and hard not to bring up when someone inquires whether or not they should make the upgrade.

The company is sort of trapped with its DS Lite: if the company drops the price of DSi to the current price of the DS Lite, it only makes sense that the lesser hardware also receives a pricedrop. The effect: sales of the DS Lite would jump, making it harder to convince gamers to purchase a DSi to establish it as a standalone standard. Of course, the second-hand market is also hurting the Nintendo DSi. True diehard handheld gamers have bought a DSi only to trade in or donate their existing Nintendo DS Lite to other gamers. This definitely has hurt Nintendo's bottom line to get people to buy into the newer standard.

With the new features of the Nintendo DSi, you'd think that Nintendo itself would have a batch of games all ready to prove the DSi's worth. Not so. Very few developers have capitalized on the new features of the Nintendo DSi: we can count the number of camera-enabled games on one hand (Wario Ware Snapped and Real Soccer 2009 are the bulk of it), and absolutely no external DSi software utilizes the SD card slot.

This is even more depressing when you consider that the Nintendo DSi has been on the market in Japan since November. That territory has had access to the DSi system for five months more than the US (it shipped November 1, 2008) but with few exceptions we're extremely light on DSi "innovation."

And even when you consider games made specifically for the DSi, the library is absolutely pathetic. In the past 90 days, there have been only 26 titles released on the DSi Shop, Nintendo's digital distribution channel. Of these 26 titles, five have been unnecessary Clock and Calendar productivity software, and nine have been titles recycled from existing DS and Game Boy Advance titles. That's more than half: one out of every two DSiWare have been low ranking shovelware or recycled software from other platforms. How can you possibly expect gamers to buy the system and pounce online if you don't strengthen the incentive with original titles?

To put it in perspective, when Apple launched the App Store in July 2008 for the iPhone and iPod Touch, there were more than 7500 applications – both games and productivity – in the first three months.

The DSi Shop channel is also pathetically clunky, slow and unorganized. It's difficult to find titles released more than a few weeks ago. It's a far cry from Apple's elegant App Store and Sony's PlayStation Store on the PSP, and Nintendo can learn a few things about interface from its competitors.

So let's all the burn those DSi's and move on shall we?

Really depends if you have a DS or not. It's not worth upgrading from a DS Lite to DSi, but DS Phat to DSi would be worth it if you don't care about GBA games. I'm happy enough with my Lite and will be hanging onto it for now.

To the person who said Nintendo should give up on the DS, that's crazy talk!
