DS1942
New Homebrew
1942.jpg

Following the inspirations of Alekmaul, many coin-op classics are being ported over to the NDS. Copper has just released a DS version of 1942. The EMU supports a few revisions of the classic MAME ROM.

Set it up in my CycloDS. It's a nearly perfect emulation of the game. Biggest issue is that you have to turn the DS sideways to play. That makes moving (d-pad, turned towards the bottom) and firing/rolling ({A & B} turned towards the top) quite uncomfortable. But the graphics, sound and gameplay are all spot-on.

Very nice emulation, despite the controls.

1942 is an awesome game. I don't think I'll be downloading this though, because that control scheme sounds awful.

Yeah, having the ds to the side with the buttons at the top is a little strange, but its cool that having it sideways makes it very close to the aspect ratio of the original.

I'm really liking all these classic quarter game DS ports and homebrews coming out lately

Big up to the one who created this!!!
Arcade Shumps on the DS is great, tate mode also, but a bit hard to control.
My biggest wish in 2009 emulation whise would be an Nintendo Wii Arcade Shump emu.
I am dreaming of playing Battle Garrega, Police Batrider, or older Cave games like Dopachi, Dangunfeveron with wii fighting stick on a tated big tv!
I know this would be hard to programm, but maybe possible?!?!

Let's make it happen!

Please!!!

what other ds mame type games are out there?

MarcaDS (mame emulator for DS, plays a bunch of old mame, like DonkeyKong, Galaxian, Super Cobra, etc)
Ghosts n'Run (Ghosts n' Gobblins)
DSPack (Pac-man, Ms. Pac-man)
DS Invaders (Space Invaders)
AemioDA (Asteroids, Asteroids Delux)
MissileCommandDS (homebrew remake)

Theres prolly more, too. These are the ones I could think of off the top of my head

1942 on this emu is not really a problem having the DS not turned
smile.gif

It looks then like a side scroller, plays perfect fine in normal DS position,
if you want to play with your DS turned, it still plays fine

(Works fine on EZFlash Vi on DSi)

Damn, MASSIVE nostalgia bomb!

I used to play 1942 in the arcades back in the 1980's (Yeah, I'm really that old - my lawn, etc.

). Used to own the high score on the cabinet for months at a time.

One oldskool arcade game I'd really like to see ported to DS is Bump n' Jump (AKA Burnin' Rubber).
Might hafta see if it'll run on MarcaDS - I think I have a Jump n' Bump ROM stashed somewhere in my archives... Thanks for the info, VatoLoco!
