I've never seen this before on a DS, but things will change no doubt as time goes on. What it appears has happened is that, if my DS Lite is either turned off for a long time, or has its battery removed for some time, then the internal system settings are wiped out. Is this a common occurrence with DS systems? I never thought about whether the system uses something like a CMOS battery, but maybe it has issues if you leave it powered down for a really long time? Or is my "clock battery" or equivalent now out of power? I'm a bit surprised as I saw this on my newer of two DS Lite systems. I would have expected it to happen first on the older one.

The settings are reset when you remove the battery, this is a normal thing.

Is this because the system takes a small charge from the battery to power the internal clock? If so, I am surprised that it is able to last in storage; I've had this DS Lite in a box for a while and it didn't lose system data until I pulled the battery outright.

Yes, there is no other battery in the system to keep the clock running. From what I know the other settings like the user name are actually not erased, I'm guessing Nintendo made the DS go to the initial settings after removing the battery just so you have to set the clock again.

I see. Thanks a lot for your info!

Mods, you can feel free to close this thread to further replies, I don't think any more is necessary.
