Hacking DS lite left hinge halp

So, i just replaced my DS's case, and everything is working alright so far, with one exception.
i, for the life of me, can not bloddy figure out how the left hinge attaches from the bottom to lower portion.
it just sort of flops around...
halp?

Its a small metal ring. Check it out here. Its just below the letter "A" in the pic. Also the four or five I have seen are not cut like the one in the pic.

You have to pull it out of your old case and put it into the new one.
