Well Opium don't want to be mean , but the ''call them when you have one'' thing is bullshit. I did and they don't even want to repair it for free , im still under warrenty and LED part of the DS fell off and they say it my fault.

Seems like the call ninty for replacement thing was Fanboy bullshit.

I can confirm that Nintendo replaces the DS. All I had to do was drive down to the Nintendo customer care center and they replaced it free of charge. Call back because you should be entitled to that free replacement, or repair.

I can confirm DarkRamza is RIGHT...

In Australia that is the case....

The don't give a f**k

First off YOU MUST SEND IT TO NINTENDO and they HAVE TO CHECK IT OUT (even though I told them that its only the hinge.... (they charge $25 just to check it)

I only had a slight crack in the hinge and they are charging me ($50 - 55) and they have taken FOREVER TO REPAIR (over a month)

Maybe Bullshirt's DS was an launch unit or he was lucky...

I know three people this has happened to. Me, my girlfriend, and a guy I work with. Mine was first, and I called first. They of course said they would fix it (for free), and sent me a shipping label. After shipping mine to them, they sent mine back with the inside faces around both screens replaced.

My girlfriend sent hers, and got an entire new unit back. Yea, I was jealous.

Then, my friend from work called about it, and they sent him a whole new unit FIRST, then he sent his busted hinge unit to them afterwards.

Well, nintendo Australia do refused to repair the unit (for free)...... They said that Nintendo America 'may' units as there 'could' have been problems with launch units. Though 'australian' units have been revised and corrected for such issues.....

If anyone in Australia does get a free repair or new unit please say so or PM me. As I will send a letter of complain to Nintendo Australia...

Also my interaction with nintendo aus was only recently (a little over a month ago) as I still haven't got my unit...

Finally Nintendo Australia told me the the cracked hinge is very rare and that I was one of very few people who complained.... Which I believe is a complete liar

I'm in the US and had the right hinge crack off during normal use and had a couple of stuck pixels and I put an order in on the internet and got they told me I'd have to pay $75.00 to get it repaired. I called Nintendo and talked to someone, explained my problem and he changed it to a warranty repair and I received a new unit at no charge.

I'd advise calling rather than entering your repair order on their website. I'd also advise you to be very respectful to the customer service rep in order for things to go your way. They seem to have some leeway regarding what is considered warranty worthy or not. If you treat them like an ass on the phone you'll get the short end of that leeway.

The rep I talked to said they had been scammed quite a few times and have been instructed to be careful when granting warranty repairs.

Well when i called (i did) i was really respectfull , i told him my problem , i asked him what the option i had , he told me that they would never pay me back one since it was my fault. I then talked about all that talk on the internet and the other media about thoses cracked hinge and i was really calm in my talk. He then said that we would only decrease the cost by 30$.

I think i will call them again. Tell them i only have a crack on the left side , which is true but my LED light has fell and all , and see what they say , maybe i just got an ass.

I mean no disrespect by saying this but if you are young and sound young on the phone you may want to have someone who sounds mature call for you. I'm guessing alot of kids call trying to get their DS replaced. I think the geeze factor may have helped.

What do you guys say to the rep when calling in? Do you just tell them that the hinge is crack and can i send it need to be fix? I mean isnt this doesnt seem that serious for them to fix right?

Off topic, how much does a DS cost in Slovenija? (And how did the introduction of Euro affect the price?)
We have two stores selling DS Lites: Mueller which is German and Big Bang, the official importer, which is Slovene.
Mueller has the original European price due to itz Zerman orizin (sorry

), which is 130 € (about 30.000 Slovenian Tollars or 1000 Croatian Kunas) and Big Bang charges about 10 € more. Could be worse. And the introduction of Euro actually dropped the price for a few cents.

I wish I could same for the groceries. :'(
Sorry for the offtopic.

Mine started as a hairline crack a few weeks ago, and now the hinge is split in twain! A friend of mine just got his new DS lite from nintendo after his hinge broke all the way off (no more worky)...but I'm not sending mine until the warranty is almost up or it stops working 100%.

I bought my DSL on launch day and got a hinge crack a few days later. It hasn't been a problem in the months since then.

I've had 2 hinge cracks. One of them was in the middle of the hinge when you open up your DS, and the other one on the replacement DS was in the same spots as yours.

I'm sure there were a few defective shipments of DS lites as well, because my first DSL the screens were at a funny angle, and the casing around the DS was very loose, allowing dirt to come in very easily, where since having the new DS, no dirt has come into it.

It's €170 here (1200 Kuna). I hate the monopolistic bastards around here

Not that I want a DSL, but it's the same with all Nintendo stuff. The Wii costs $375, €285. The games are $90

I shall pounce on any modchip that crosses the Croatian border with such vim and vigor that a passing cheetah will seem like standing still.

Still, exchange it while you still have warranty. Or better yet, exchange it one month before the warranty expires.

And if you can, get a black replacement Lite. Or blue. They haven't been reported to crack.

Sounds like the same guy I got xD I'm from US btw, but the dude I talked to also attempted to tell me it was my fault, so I argued with him until he told me I'd receive a return package soon :3 I had the same issue you did on 2 DS's. I didn't even bother calling Ninty to replace the second one as the guy I talked to on the phone said if it happens again they'd have to charge me. o.O

Thats fuqing bulllshit the same thing happened to mine it just broke off and my screen woult turn red while i was playing, i think nintendo didnt spend time on the plastic... i am soo pissed, but i can fix it i just need a Nintendo screw and a shell replacment kit for DS LITE does any1 know where i can get that ?

All Nintendo hardware comes with warranties.

FUQQQQQQQQQQQQ!

Are all of you 12 years old?
From your last two posts, it would seem to me that someone's on their period. Get over it. Please.

I just got my DSL back from nintendo repair. Havent had it 2 - 3 days.. and the crack is forming again? Man this is some really crappy design if it can live longer than 3 days. I think this go around I will order the replacement case from Shock! maybe it will last longer than 3 days.

Anyone notice it seems to only effect the white DS's Could it be the materials its made from cause it to crack so easily?

Did they just "repair" your DS, or did they give you a whole new one? Is the crack forming in the exact same place as the old one?

I only ask because I'm gonna be sending mine into Nintendo soon to get fixed, and I was kinda hoping that they were just going to replace it with a new one.

Just a quick question, for those of you that have DS with cracked hinge, do your DS open with a click or a thud at the 165 (appr.) degrees position?

You know what, mine opens with a click to the 165 angle, but once it's there, it doesn't feel very solid. It's not distracting if I'm just sitting there playing, but if I move the DS back and forth, it wobbles quite a bit. Anybody else have the same problem? Is this just normal DS behavior?

Oh. And yes, my hinge is cracked.
