I tried long ago but I somehow wiped my emunand and my game saves went along with it, got fed up and reverted to Rxtools.

That was not a Luma issue, your saves should be safe if you didn't touch your "Nintendo 3DS" folder.
Which entrypoint are you using to access your CFW?

I'll try again tommorow. Any way to backup the emunand and restore later? That matters to me. And hopefully, i can get hb menu up and running

Still only homebrew and Download Play titles.

Is the ability to play DS roms stored on an SD card something that we can say for sure it will happen, or is there a good chance that this may never happen, and I should just go ahead and buy a flash cart?

With recent discoveries in DSi-Mode, it sure will happen.
If you want, you can buy a flashcard while you're waiting.

Shouldn't something like a partition in your SD card formated like the TWLNAND to redirect the read/write works on this case?
something like an emuTWLNAND, so when the home menu request info on TWLNAND data the CFW redirects the access request to that emuTWLNAND, dunno if this is remotely possible though

Running NTR software at TWL clockspeeds can produce a pretty dramatic difference!
I tried playing Rayman DS because its performance made it close to unplayable when I last tried it, but the framerate appeared to double!
I'm impressed and I can't wait to make the most of this software. I only wish that it worked passively when you run stuff from the cartridge slot... Oh well, it's probably quite difficult under the hood.

How about a .bin for a9lh that just autoboots the DS card, preferably with TWL clock. Is that possible?

I'd also like to ask: Is it possible to transfer files between my 3DS's SD card and my AK2i's internal micro SD? It's kind of a pain to remove the card manually and FTP is also inconvenient because of WiFi encryption.
Ahezard's HBMenu can read both the SD card and the AK2i's storage, but I can't see any way to copy files. I can only run a few .nds files; homebrew works from the AK2i but retail roms don't. And nothing works from the SD.
I'd especially love it if SD access was built into AKAIO, but maybe I'm asking too much :p
