We're gettin' there, be patient...So how close are we to running the DS mode with any rom we want?

I am, i'm gonna get a flashcart anyways. (hopefully)We're gettin' there, be patient...
I wouldn't get a flashcart just yet (save yourself some extra money) they are VERY VERY closeI am, i'm gonna get a flashcart anyways. (hopefully)
Ahezard plans to start with hbmenu as a base for a new rom loader. hbmenu really only doesn't parse overlays right now so that's why retail games don't boot. Homebrew doesn't use overlays.
But it's clean and stable and Ahezard decided not to use Wood3DS anymore for further work on this. He might reuse the patching system akmenu used though.
Because of how busy he will be in September it's going to be awhile before he gets serious work into this. So yes there's a good chance we'll get DS games running from SD now. But it's still months away.
It's very close. DS carts are not worth spending money on right now though. Go buy yourself a good supper@SirBeethoven - What about Apache Thunder's response to a previous thread where he stated:
I emphasized the last line in order to ask this question: With this in mind, is 'very very close' equal to what Apache Thunder is saying?
Exactly, do you @SirBeethoven know something that we don't? Because even with the progress that has been done in DSimode hacking lately, from what I know we're nowhere near booting DS roms off SD Card yet, it just made it a possibility in the future. It might take quite some time to get this developed to usable state, so I don't see how spending 8 bucks on DS flashcart is not worth it for someone that just wants to play DS games right now.@SirBeethoven - What about Apache Thunder's response to a previous thread where he stated:

I know as much as anyone elseExactly, do you @SirBeethoven know something that we don't? Honestly though, flashcards are so cheap (whereas gateway is like 80 bucks), a lot of them have open source firmwares, and even once ROM loading is possible off an SD card it probably still won't have the functionality of a flashcard. In my opinion, those 8 (or sometimes less) dollars are well worth it.I know as much as anyone elseIf you'd rather spend that money on a flashcart than a nicer supper or bowling with a friend / Tutti Frutti, go ahead by all means. But when you have patience, and wait for the Devs, you wouldn't have had to pay $8 or more for something that's free. For example - Buying a Gateway for CFW usage only to later on find out that there's free, better ways
eh but flash cards break and i do not expect them to still being made like 10 years from now also if this can be down with the 3ds can can be done with a dsi but you would need a dsi exploit to flash the nand with the twlbg patch and a way to install custom dsi ware on a dsi my firend had his flash card not work any more after it froze and i could not fix it they are cheapley made and break easyHonestly though, flashcards are so cheap (whereas gateway is like 80 bucks), a lot of them have open source firmwares, and even once ROM loading is possible off an SD card it probably still won't have the functionality of a flashcard. well if more people are willing to work on it not just ahezard it will happen quickerIt's very close. DS carts are not worth spending money on right now though. Go buy yourself a good supper![]()

Remember that most likely he will have the flashcart before ROM loading will be possible, so he can play ds games for some time until rom loading will be possible.I know as much as anyone elseIf you'd rather spend that money on a flashcart than a nicer supper or bowling with a friend / Tutti Frutti, go ahead by all means. flash cards are cheaply made and can break my firend had on and he had to blow on it to get it to work and it broke when i used a cheat on a game and it froze and i think i bricked it. also the 3ds all ready had support for digital games so all the features work on cias and roms can even be converted to them. and you have to go on weird sites to get a flash card like you can't just find them on amazon and people are going to stop making them when the ds gets really really old and look at all the things that a hacked 3ds replaces like it replaces power saves r4 i save dongel and you can also easly dump ds roms with it and not have to have a dslite also with nitro hax now working it replaces a ds action replay so we might as well have it also replace ds flash cardsRemember that most likely he will have the flashcart before ROM loading will be possible, so he can play ds games for some time until rom loading will be possible.
It really depends on your current game library supply and demand and on your sd memory cards (if you don't have a micro sd card but you have extra space on your (n)3ds (micro )sd card you may want to wait and to save another 6$).
Remember that flashcart can be useful even when rom loading is possible for multiplayer games, playing on another console ds games, compatibility, cheats, hot key, etc...
I bought my sky3ds blue button half a year before mumchunkhax2 and I don't regret it, as I lost both of my 3ds games and because the sky3ds I had games to play on my 3ds for half a year.
eh but the wii could play gamecube games backups the wiiu can even do it so i want same to happen with 3ds but with not flash card it seems possible with the sd access so why not do it we already action replay cheats with out an action replayI've been using my ancient R4 it for over 3 years with DS lite and then with 3DS since @Apache Thunder released stage 2 TWL launcher with no problems whatsoever. Its actually more reliable than R4i-SDHC "Dual-Core", which supports 3DS out of the box, but has worse game compability with Wood R4. So in my experience, for 3DS that runs Custom Firmware, original R4 is well worth that $6.99.
flash cards have a con of being cheaply made thats why most are cheap the plastics cheap and their made in china and they can break or brick randomly i had my firends one brick when i gltiched up a game with action replay codes and it froze after that it would not boot so it courrpted the files on the sd or bricked it and he always had to blow on it to get it to work its not like a legit ds card. Flash cards can brick easily if you glitch things up on them how was it done with game cube isos on the wii how did they make it so it told to read the game from sd instead of the disc drive the game cube did not even have an sd slot like the dslite and ds fat don't so how did they make it work on the wii and it even works on the wii u@Wojton - These flashcarts are quite cheap for what they offer. In a way it is exactly like buying a backup storage device: You can store your own personal backups to keep your mind at peace—with the added benefit of playing those backups off of the cart. I feel that the excitement still lingers for quite a few people that devs are another step closer to negating the requirement of these flashcarts. @hacksn5s4 and @the assaf summed up the pros and cons nicely.
