Did you notice nintendo added buttons to the DS but they don't use it? -----Correction : to the DS but they bearly use it?
Is it just me? or there aren't enugh games that use the buttons and NOT the touch screen..

I can only name like.. 10 MAX

1 New Super Mario Bros
2 Super Mario 64 DS
3 Yoshi Island DS
4 Castelvenia
5 Mario Kart
6 Sonic
7 Contact(Not sure about that)
8 Custom robo arena(Not sure about that too)
9 Jump Ultimate stars
10 Naruto Ninja council
11 Kirby
12 Tony Hawk
13 Chibi robo park patrol (Not sure)
14 Final Fantasy ( Not sure)
15 Dragon quest heroes - Rocket slime (Not sure)

Yeap like I said.. Only 10MAX and 5 that i'm not sure about..

Well I know it's nintendo DUAL SCREEN but thats pretty stupid to put these buttons there if they bearly use em..

Possible Reasons :

having both buttons and the touch screen and 2 screens means more options for developers to create games the way THEY want to. nintendo did it's job by providing developers with a platform that has so much available creativity involved. i can't blame developers for somewhat abandoning the buttons, a majority of people who own a DS (ie people not on here) see the touch screen as an escape from conventional gaming and thats why they buy the DS.

I suppose it can be said that the DS is a victim of it's own design at times because the vast majority of touch screen games enabled games, and I'm not talking about those that are dedicated to the control system, lack real ingenuity with their inclusion. The Wii has the same sort problem too. Most of the games with motion sensitivity could do without the implementation but if they don't include them, the owners would start to feel a bit gipped by it. Which tenuously brings me to the opinion I'm trying to state. I agree that there aren't that many truly dedicated d-pad and button games. Really we're mostly looking at 2D platformer games and beat em ups (and a few others) mainly as being the main carriers of that control scheme. The innovation is to blame but Nintendo always left that door open for developers and fans alike to have the good ol' traditional system that everyone knows and loves.

Games are designed to make the best possible use of the format, (or alteast try, there are alot of idle or just retarded devs

). I don't think there's an answer to if there's enough titles that use sololy the buttons or vice versa, it's just opinion. Also, they had to have the keys to keep it backwards compatible with GBA games.

Stylus control is option for a lot of games. One example being something like Animal Crossing.

The same argument can be applied to the games that are D-Pad and buttons only or the games that don't really use both screens to their full advantage. The whole idea of the DS was to open up more possibilities and the touch screen is probably the main real selling point.

There are unfortunately a lot of games that just use the touch screen for the sake of it but I can't think of any that don't support d-pad/button at all that could actually still work as a game in the same way. Imagine how awful a game Trauma Centre would be for instance if it used d-pad controls.

Using the stylus too much is a burden , i mean, look at phantom hourglass, it is a pain to play after a while and you dont a good portion of the screen.

Heck, the game itself pokes fun at itself at 1 point with one of the spirit guides (dead sack of bones)- saying something along the lines of "Why can't I use buttons to play this game"

I'm speaking of some games.. I found 10 and 5 of em are not sure.. that 15 out 1500!!! thats 1/100 of that!!

@ the other guy that I don't remember his name : "Games are designed to make the best possible use of the format, (or alteast try, there are alot of idle or just retarded devs

Then why did they add the X and Y buttons?

Like I say, there's no right or wrong answer here, I was just adding another reason why they didn't abolish the buttons all together, (as you seemed to have implied they could have done).

There are ALOT more games that use the buttons. For example, mph in the dual wield mode, spyro legend of the eternal night, like all or the racing games, like race driver, and a hell of alot more. So it's not that there are only a few games, it's just that your to closed minded.

Name 20 games that ONLY SUPPORT BUTTONS!! Not even a tiny use of touch screen.. (I agree if the game has two options , one of touch and one of buttons)

If you could name 20 that are not those I mentiond! If so.. You prooved me wrong!

Whats the problem with games that only support buttons? Surely if they support both a stylus and the buttons it makes more people happier, such as Animal Crossing. At times i prefer to use the stylus to do things, othertimes the buttons. Having more choice is better than restricting it.

Dunno, but haven't you bought a DS because... well... the whole concept of having a touchscreen makes completely different controls possible? Why whine about games not using buttons? Is it just me or is your post completely missing the point?

And where exactly did I say that?

i almost prefer using the touch screen to the buttons, my hand become very uncomfortable after a somewhat long duration of gaming (only 30 minutes or so) thats not to say i dont like my mario kart, but i can sit down and play ouendan for alot longer comfortably. heck i like the PSP better for longer periods of gaming over the DS. but i own a DS and not a PSP because of the touch screen, because of the dual screens, and ofcourse the games

I kinda like this reason.

Stylus control is kinda tiring after awhile.
I remember I got excited after realizing Luminous Arc had traditional button control.
(Which kinda was 13 chapters into the game)

I have no preference, but sometimes, I feel that even though stylus control is kinda innovative and fun to use, I still can't help but go back to the conventional button control. Holding the DS is easier like this.

I find it impossible to disagree. One of the prime reasons why I bought a DS was because of the innovation behind the touch screen (and not because of flashcarts
rofl2.gif
) . In all seriousness, I would have bought a PSP if the DS had 2 LCD screens (and no touch screen)

After playing with GBCs and GBAs for 5 years straight, the DS is, as pinoyxpryde said, an escape from conventional gaming and thus making it one of the main reasons to buy a DS.
