Hacking DS Browser & M3DS Real

I was reading about how you apparently need to patch the DS Browser ROM to get it to work with the M3DS Real, but do you still need to patch it if you have the GBA Expansion pack?

Out of curiosity, why does it need to be patched? What is in the code that it doesn't work on an M3DS Real?

The Opera browser expects to find its official 8 MB RAM pack in order to function. Most slot-1 devices can use any slot-2 device with RAM, but you must patch the device so it can access it correctly. There are exceptions, and some slot-1 devices can run the browser cleanly if you have a specific slot-2 device inserted, but for the most part you usually have to patch the Opera rom.
