Yep waste of a license, being Top Trumps there is very little strategy and everything is based on luck. Your card shows up, you hope its attributes are higher than the one its up against...that's it. Sometimes you're opponent keeps getting better cards so you're just sitting there not doing much, you can do the odd scan to help though. There are mini games too but they're just bollocks, some are just the same as the game itself. Another thing that annoyed me is that some aliens cards have things that they don't in the series. In fact its nearly the same as the web game on the BBC site, which you don't have to pay for. Its worse than the other two Top Trump DS games, at least they bothered using more than menus on that.
Graphcially, looks cheap, everything is done by menus & it uses the shitty look of the cartoon...except for the characters that weren't in it (which is not the Doctor or Martha) and they have that shitty "photo but made to look like a cartoon" look that actually makes the images look like they were done with only VGA colours. Sound is just using the soundtrack of the series with the odd generic sci-fi noise.
If Eidos make another game, it better be an adventure/puzzle game but most likely be a load of mini games, though if they added a Catherine Tate torture mini game I'd buy it.
So yeah cheap but not cheerful, expect this to sell well over here as some places are selling it for £9.99 and parents will probably buy it for their kids, the kids will go "oh wow hot tits", play it and die a little inside. Even fans of Top Trump games won't be happy with this, and they'll have all the cards anyway, and playing on there own will probably be more fun.
