ROM Hack Dragon Quest VI NDS Translation The Grinch

There is a post of a dragon quest vi translation on ds-scene.
Has anybody tried it yet?

The translation-file is currently found only on a torrent site. I am not sure, if i should download it or not because the torrent file has no comments and i do not want to download a virus.

Would be a nice not to have to wait until February.

UPDATE:

Played it for a few minutes and it works so far. (No virus and game is in english)

If the file is an NDS file, then it's most likely not a virus.
There are two NDS brickers, but they're small files -- smaller than a game.

If you're worried about virus', get a virus scanner.
Check the bottom of this for AV rankings, you'll want one that ranked "Advanced+".

I played about 4 hours and so far, every single line is translated.

Right now, i made my first trip with the boat.

i downloaded the patch i have the rom file but i have no idea how to pach my file

rename the patch from .patch to .xdelta

run xdeltaUI, put the file-path of the rom and the patch in the corresponding fields
and create and output file (ie dq6.nds)

press "patch" and enjoy the game

This is a English translation of the Japanese video game, Dragon
Quest VI: maboroshi no daichi for the Nintendo DS. It is "beta"
only because I am the only person bored enough to translate &
edit this who doesn't suck.

Please support Square-Enix and Nintendo in February when they
publish Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelations. It is a fun and
whimsical adventure explicitly created for North American and
European audiences.


*Instructions*

Use Xdelta. This is the command I use.

xdelta3 -d -s b-dq6.nds b-dq6e-beta-1.patch b-dq6e.nds

*Problems*

I do not recommend using the passerby/wifi system on your DS.
You will probably end up leaving unintelligible comments on
Japanese players' DS. You can use a save editor to collect
fake dream confessions to unlock the inn.

The best dresser contest registration menu was missed by the
hacker.

After all legendary arms are collected you may start noticing
typos or errors. This is where I stopped editing currently. It's
tiring when you don't have an editor...

I wonder if he just ported over the SNES translation where applicable...

But this is cool news, I didn't hear of it anywhere but here. Maybe this should be spread around a little? I mean, katakana is easy enough to read if you know any English at all, but I'm sure even that is daunting enough to scare some people away from an otherwise awesome game.

is it possible to use the save from the fan-translation with the us retail version or do i have to start a new game?

Most games use the exact same save file across regions. You should be fine.

Hello, gentle readers.

I've seen some mob-mentality and misinformation in the past week, and normally I wouldn't care, but it seems to be confusing people. I'll leave a few remarks about this translation patch here in this thread only.
[*]I find it hilarious that I've been accused of plagiarizing my own translation.

Yes, it is all my translation since the time I first started it in February as a personal challenge. This patch was worked on by two people, myself (translation) and a friend (hacker). Anything else you read is hearsay and misinformation.[*]Don't assume the contents of the translation if you haven't played it. There are 0 main script lines, ~80 party chat lines, and ~13 system text lines missing. What I mean by "certain point" is that I haven't gone over it in a long time with my own eyes, but the game is fully playable to the very end. [*]A critic playtested the patch in a far worse condition a month or so ago, and very much enjoyed the translation, but I am a bit embarrassed to have released it to that person at that point.

[*]North American/European players may be confused by certain nuances, tropes, and personalities in the DS version of Dragon Quest VI: ???? (maboroshi no daichi). The translation should encourage discussion and broader understanding of the content of the Japanese DS game. It is not meant as a replacement for Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation.[*]Since I'm now posting
