Dragon Quest Monsters 2 3DS remake announced

It's no surprise that Square Enix likes re-releasing its Dragon Quest titles. Now there's a new one! Of course, it's announced for Japan, and will most likely not reach the West, at least for a couple of years.

Square Enix has just opened up a teaser site for its newest project, ‘Dragon Quest Monsters 2 for 3DS’, a remake of the original Dragon Quest Monsters 2 for the Game Boy color that were titled DQM2: Cobi’s Journey and DQM2: Tara’s Adventure in the west. The remake titled ‘Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca’s Marvelous Mysterious Key’ features more than 800 monsters of the series, including monsters from DQX, has G-rank sized monsters, allows at most 4-on-4 battles, and includes multiplayer support for up to eight people. As the name implies, it is both versions of the original packed into one with of course updated content and re-enhanced visuals.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2 is probably on my top 10 favorite games list, so this excites me, but seeing as how DQMJ2P, Terry's Wonderland, and a bunch of other Dragon Quest games have yet to be translated, it also disappoints me.

wtf DWM 1 and 2 were ma favorite games on gbc. Hell I played DWM2 so much that the cart stopped working (played it every day for over 2 years trying to get a dream egg). I really hope Nintendo will release it in America and Canada (and a 3ds xl bundle).

I remember being grounded once, so my mom took away my Gameboy Advance. Luckily, my mom isn't that smart, so she forgot my Gameboy Color. Best gameboy color game ever. I remember trying to breed over 150 monster's(on my first play thought) so I could fight Terry at the monster arena. Best years of my gamer life and I still have not got that damn Dream egg, and you got to love the magic keys all the possible worlds to visit.

Both! I originally had Tara, then I ended up getting Cobi too. I think the whole magic keys aspect was the best part of the game. If Joker or Joker 2 had even a small amount of the infinite possibilities Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 had, they would have been much more fun.

Seeing as how there is only one version of the remake, we won't need to bother with having two copies or hoping a friend has the other to get specific monsters. And, with the advent of wi-fi trading and the like, Dream Eggs wouldn't be nearly as bad as in the original.

Since Square Enix won't even bother with localizing it, let's hope the 3DS gets fully hacked soon so fans can start translating it (and Terry's Wonderland and a ton of other JP-only games).

Ah, sweet! I love these games--hopefully a flashcart down the line will let me play one on my region-restricted console...

Also, for people who are lamenting the lack of localization for DQ Monsters 3DS, I think I remember NoA rumour that the choice between which game to localize was DQVII 3DS or Bravely Default, and NoA thought Bravely Default would be a better investment. So a localization of either 3DS DQ game will probably be at least another year out...

Square Enix has been having enough problems with their games selling. They don't need a Gahars pun to put off customers even more.

If it were a decent remake and not another Joker-style fuckup like Terry's Wonderland 3D, I'd buy it in a heartbeat, if it actually got localized. Instead I'll just hope and pray that the DQM 1+2 PSX translation project actually finishes.

To play the Devil's Advocate (even though I agree with you), I think the change makes more sense. Some monsters are clearly one "gender" or the other. With + and -, you can have two otherwise clearly male monsters mate with each other.

And i agree with you, like WTF is with the bisexual monsters now? Synthesizing is basically a fusion of monster so why would the need a gender to fuse? I understand having a gender if you are going to BREED, hell I remember breeding Slib over and over again to get max stats so he could be smart enough to learn Mega Magic.

In DWM my team was always a +99 Rosevine named Rose, a +99 Gold Slime(named Gold) and a +99 Slime Named Slib, all with max stats

In DWM 2 My team was always +99 Slime (Slash), a +99 Grand Slime(Grand) and usually a +99 dragon all with max stats.

Me too, I never did finish it. I couldn't put up with all the grinding I had to do in order to defeat Dhoulmagus the second time.

Damn it, DQM's are way better than Pokemon, they need more attention! I freaking loved them on GBC and even the DS games! I really hope this one doesn't just stay in Japan.
