I've been scrolling through several of the threads on softmodding the PS3, and I'm having a hard time finding if there're any known methods for downgrading a PS3 from OFW 3.56 to 3.55, aside from an alleged "bricking" method. Does anyone know if any software has been released which allows one to downgrade from 3.56 without having any homebrew installed?

There's no way to downgrade a 3.56, as 3.56 can't exit "factory service" mode.
You can downgrade, but you can't use you console anymore, so it's a brick-like.

Do not ever go into "factory service" on 3.56.

Factory =/= recovery.

Recovery mode is fine to use, and allows you to fix hard drive errors, reinstall current firmware version or higher.
Factory mode allows installation of previous firmware, but it needs a way to go back to "user mode" after the downgrade.

The bricking method does sound pretty risky

+1

Anyone confirmed that works?

Is there a success-rate-ratio for this method?

Seems like PSuicid3 to me.

LOL, have you even tried reading it? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to determine that kind of bull. Anyway, bricking = rendering useless.
